Exclusive - Trump border 'wall' to cost $21.6 billion, take 3.5 years to build: internal report

By Julia Edwards Ainsley | WASHINGTON President Donald Trump’s “wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border would be a series of fences and walls that would cost as much as $21.6 billion, and take more than three years to construct, based on a U.S. Department of Homeland Security internal report seen by Reuters on Thursday.

The report’s estimated price-tag is much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and estimates as high as $15 billion from Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The report is expected to be presented to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly in coming days, although the administration will not necessarily take actions it recommends.

The plan lays out what it would take to seal the border in three phases of construction of fences and walls covering just over 1,250 miles (2,000 km) by the end of 2020.

Especially since as a Trump construction project, it will come in ahead of schedule and under budget.

Does anyone know if there is already a right of way/easement on the border in Texas? There is on most of the border, put in place in early 1900s for border security purposes. Texas will be sticky because of the river also.

A 200 foot wide strip of land along a 1250 mile section would only be 32,000 acres of land. Even at $10K / acre it would only be $300M. Desert and ranch land should average much less than $10K / acre.

If Fauxcohontis manages to win the next election, she’ll probably install doorways every mile for a cost of 43.2 million>>> you are a conservative. if the witch does it the doors will definitely cost $500T. walking around money.

That’s less than the failed green energy “investments” made by Obama’s pork bill.

Over $18M per mile considering this plan is for only 1250 miles.

Over $3K per linear foot seems excessive. Solid concrete at $100 /cy could run 2’ thick for 20’ below ground and 50’ above ground and still only cost $500 per linear foot.

A PERMANENT wall a future DemonRat prez like 0dungsh*t cannot UNDO. This is what’s so GREAT about this WALL.

I wouldn't count on it. When the dems get back in I think they would stop enforcing it, knock out a few openings here and there and let the illegals knock the wall down over time.

Limit the 9th Court to just northern CA and no other states, then create new Circuit Courts to cover southern CA and AZ and the rest. Stock the new Court with Trump appointees.

A 200 foot wide strip of land along a 1250 mile section would only be 32,000 acres of land.

It depends on where the wall is built in relation to the border. If the wall is built some distance away from the border, then landowners will have property they can only access via Mexico and crossing the river. Therefore that land's value will be impacted and the owner will have to be compensated for any land that lost considerable value due to the building of the wall.

Thanks for the math check.

So, according to the ARTBA figures I quoted, the fence is estimated to cost over 150% of the cost of building a six-lane interstate highway through an urban area.

...Obama holdovers, and the media who love them, have no shame.
