Texas Salon Owner Tells Bernie Her Business Can't Afford Obamacare. His Response Stops Viewers Cold

During the Sanders-Cruz debate on the future of Obamacare, A small business from Texas confronted Bernie Sanders about exploding health care costs under Obamacare, telling him she simply can’t afford to provide insurance for all of her employees.

During CNN's Ted Cruz-Bernie Sanders debate on Tuesday, the business owner, who operates several hair salons in Texas, asked Sanders how she can comply with Obamacare without passing on costs to customers or lowering her employees’ wages. She said she has just under 50 employees.

“Let me give you an answer you will not be happy with,” Sanders replied. “I think that businesses that employ 50 people or more… I’m sorry, I think that in America today, everybody should have health care. And if you have more than 50 people, you know what, I’m afraid to tell you, I think you will have to provide health insurance.”

The business owner quickly shot back:

“So my question is how do I do that without raising my prices to my customers or lowing the wages to my employees?”

Sanders went on to argue that it's “unfair” that there might be “somebody else in Fort Worth who is providing decent health insurance to their employees,” but they have to compete with her business that doesn't provide an employer-based health care plan.

“I think you’ll find the profit margin in my entire industry about the same," the business owner replied.

The reactions to the exchange were harsh:

Sanders tells a business owner she should be forced to pay for insurance. Which means firing people. Because stupid. #CNNDebateNight— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) February 8, 2017

small business owner: i can't afford to stay in business and simultaneously provide healthcare for my employees

sanders: go out of business— Anna-Kay Fischer ⓥ (@annakayfischer) February 8, 2017

Wow that question from the small business owner was BRUTAL for Sanders. BRUTAL. #CNNDebateNight— Bill (@DefendWallSt) February 8, 2017

Sanders should've been more prepared for the question from the small-business owner. Is a common critique of ACA. #CNNDebateNight— Jake T. Apodaca (@jakeapodaca) February 8, 2017

Sanders isn’t coming off well here; looks like he’s lecturing a small business owner on how to run her business.— Sterling Beard (@SterlingCBeard) February 8, 2017

To be fair, Sanders ultimately conceded that he doesn't know much about hair salons in Fort Worth, Texas.

That’s what liberalism is, fundamentally, on economic matters: controlling other peoples’ business choices.

All of liberalism boils down to curtailing liberty, and one set of neighbors telling another set of neighbors — via the power of politicians and the violent force of the police and judicial system -— how they can and cannot use their wealth, property, and labor.

It's not as if Sanders was EVER able to support himself in the private sector, despite 20 or more years of trying. He was a total failure at everything he did before he got into formal politics with his election as Mayor of Burlington. He was also a know-it-all about what other people should do. He's just being consistent, /S.

It’s called “Marxism”.

Karl Marx HATED the middle class.
He DESPISED them.
He wanted them DEAD.

Using Marx’s ideas to help the middle class and small business owners is like using Hitler’s ideas to help the Jews.

But you middle class Marxists just love Ole’ Bernie. :)

I wouldn’t call the exchange “fascinating”. It wasn’t an exchange at all. Bernie told her what she needs to do and basically told her to f-off.

Typical tyrannical, socialist know it all. And to start an answer off with “you’re not going to like what I’m about to say” is no way to win a crowd. Bernie is a walking social blunder.

Nearly what Hilliary said in 1993 when she was working on HillaryCare:

“I can’t be held responsible for every under-capitalized business in America!”..............

Liberal policies are schizophrenic when related to their purported purpose. For example, they support minimum wage policies to raise the pay of workers in the USA (for the working families).

At the same time, they are ok with Nafta where workers get substantially less per hour.

They also purport to be for clean air/need to lower CO2 on a Global basis, but they support trade policies that allow products to be produced out side the USA using highly polluting methods.

I suppose Bernie thinks the best answer is for her to close down her business, and force all of the employees onto unemployment, food stamps, and Medicaid.

How the hell does the blush come completely off of a gin-blossomed, rosacea-blotted, varicose crease-bag? And so quickly! Usually their obfuscatory dissembling is couched in much less confrontational frankness.

Bernie is too full of himself. Pride cometh and all that. Weekend at Bernie's?

LOL!

Bernie’s pretty close to having everyone walk under a “Work Will Set You Free” sign as we go back and forth to work from our government provided barracks!

Just a reminder that insurance is not access. An example is Medicare and Medicaid - some doctors will not accept patients with that insurance.

The people I know that signed up for Obama care wished they had not done it, because they can’t afford to go to the doctor after paying the insurance (high deductible).

Bernie is a walking social blunder

...who likely would have gotten the nomination if Hillary hadn't arranged to steal it from him.

And, IMO, he'd have beaten Trump. Not because I think he's a better candidate, but because the media would have spun him as a loveable old grandpa vs Trump as a more obnoxious Snively Whiplash. And the public is dumb enough to buy that.

America dodged a bullet on many different levels in 2016.
