MALCOLM Turnbull thought he could outsmart Donald Trump and trap him into taking 1250 of our boat people.
Huge mistake, and now he’s been humiliated.
There is no surprise that an angry Trump attacked Turnbull in their call at the weekend and hung up halfway through, after just 25 minutes.
What did Turnbull expect?
This political disaster was always on the cards from the moment Turnbull announced, on November 13 last year, that he’d signed a deal with then US president Barack Obama to take our boat people detained on Nauru and Manus Island.
That was very dumb because just five days earlier Trump had been unexpectedly elected the next president, having campaigned hard against exactly this kind of thing.
Trump had made it perfectly clear that he was against taking in alleged refugees from jihadist countries without at least “extreme vetting”. Turnbull knew this. In fact, he’d planned to announce his Obama arrangement early this year, but after Trump’s win rushed it forward in an apparent attempt to present Trump with a fait accompli — a done-deal the new President would not dare undo.
Trump had no choice but to back off. The Post had reported him accusing Turnbull of wanting to send him more “Boston bombers”, and he could hardly now tell the American voters he was happy to take them.
So Trump instead tweeted: “Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!”
Turnbull has a very nervous wait now to see if his boat people “solution” will survive. He’s also learned a very hard lesson: don’t try messing with Trump.

Yes, Trump has extra security and is a smart man.
Streetwise too from dealing with construction in NYC.
I think he will be ok.
I think he’s a winner, and he’s brought in a great team.
Because he know BO can be bought off.
We KNOW he’s a winner. I didn’t KNOW he was really conservative.
But I’ve said for a year we Manhattan working conservatives have to sound moderate or not say anything at all. A paycheck is important :)

Yet another stupid move for Levin. I can't stand to listen to him and he is the only talk show for my drive home every night. I listen to music now. I hope that Steven Crowder is able to disassociate himself from Levin before the stench rubs off on him.
He is acting a lot more Conservative than I thought he would. I have been doing some research, and found out that one of his mentors was a lawyer who advised the House on Un-American Activities. That’s almost like being raised as a son of Goldwater-LOL.
Really ..?? I watch FOX a lot and I’ve not heard a word about it.
And .. my question was about Turnbull. I thought he was a surprise winner because he was an extreme LEFTIST; and the Aussie’s have been known to be pretty conservative - and one of the groups of Exceptional Warriors the USA has aligned with over the years.
However, I’ve not seen a word about how liberal Turnbull is .. and, therefore, I suspect his agreement with Obama was a signal.
And .. I also believe this was a scheme hatched by Obama to try to embarrass Trump. However, it has not worked, and has shown Turnbull as suspicious as a “partner” to be allied with by the USA.
I will look to see if Trump did agree to take the boat people as agreed between Zer0 and Turnbull. I recall watching Trump say that he was taking them and he could not change it.
