McConnell all but rules out filibuster change

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday all but ruled out the possibility of a change to the filibuster rule this year.

McConnell made his comment in an interview with The Hill one day after President Trump said he wants Senate Republicans to strip Democrats of the power to filibuster Supreme Court nominees if they attempt to block his pick.

“Senate rules are a matter for the Senate and a lot of other people have opinions,” McConnell said.

“We’ve already adopted the rules for this Congress at the beginning of the year. Basically we didn’t adopt any because in the Senate rules are permanent, unlike the House which every two year adopts a new set of rules. We don’t.”

The filibuster only works one way. If the GOP wouldn’t filibuster extremists like Kagan and Sotomayor they won’t filibuster anyone.

“Well, Mitt, I have second thoughts about Elaine’s nomination....”

Watching Trump, a man of action, and Mitt, a man of inertia, this week shows what we have had to endure for the past 28 years in GOP leadership.

“Alison Grimes was the lesser evil.”

I hate McConnell as much as you do, and my own state’s resident snake, John McCain. But never, ever trust a Democrat with your second amendment rights.

A junior Democrat for 6 years would be less damaging than a turncoat Majority Leader and a senior Democrat in an R jersey.

Charge McConnell with treason and remove him from the senate.

McConnell IS a Democrat obstructionist.

He is essentially/effectively a plant for the other side.

Every time an opportunity arises to restore the COTUS in a meaningful way there is someone who betrays us.

Convention of States seems to be the only remedy.

the best idea is to...

get as much as we can before asking
that the rules be changed.

ask for this later

Yes, the McDaniel treatment was jaw dropping. I had forgotten about that. For whatever reason, the Senators keep on voting for McConnell as their leader. All I can think of is he must be some kind of wizard behind the scenes and an expert on rules - in other words - a technical guru as it applies to running the Senate because publicly, he is neither inspirational nor interesting and I am being kind.

I understand the type of job McConnell has is a thankless task and most people don't want to do it. You get blamed for everything, but still, there are others in the Senate who can do the job.

Reid only tossed out the filibuster rule for appellate/Federal district Judges.

Filibuster for legislation and Supreme Court Judges was still intact. In 210 a Republican wave hitt the HOR. Filibuster for legislation remained intact. When Repubs broke the Super Majotrity Reid only ended the filibuster for a appellate/district Judges.
