Would Trump Really Kill Off NATO?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 1/17/2016 | Staff

NATO: With just a few days before he becomes president, Donald Trump has set off tremors with scathing criticisms of NATO. Many EU leaders, especially in Germany, are in a near-panic. Is Trump serious?

The Times of London stated it succinctly in a not-understated headline: "Trump broadside stuns Europe." The broadside in question was one in which Trump openly called the postwar American military alliance, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, obsolete. He also applauded Britain's move to leave the European Union, and predicted that others would leave too.

The response across official Europe was one of alarm.

"We Europeans have our fate in our own hands," said an exasperated German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

President Francois Hollande of France preferred bluster: "(Europe) has no need for outside advice to tell it what it has to do."

"In the end, Trump's scary remarks will serve a deeper purpose: Refocusing the EU on its fiscal and moral responsibilities for our common defense. If he only does this, Trump will have accomplished more in national security than President Obama did in eight years."

The leading Euro nations in NATO are bent on suicide by Islam. For the US to stay entangled with them is McCainlike insanity.

There might be room for a US alliance with some Eastern European countries against the primary threat of Islam.

NATO has already been fighting on the side of the muslim hordes.

In 10 years or less NATO will be fighting anyone opposed to the muslim invasion.

I say less
They are talking about an EU army
It’s guns will be pointed inward on its own citizens. Not outward against Russia

That's rich, considering that it's what Europe does best when it comes to US!

I wonder if that isn't mostly Germany and Belgium, having way too much control. Other countries voted for easier trade among them, not a gov that took over their lives.

I'll introduce a contrary thought here. Would the US dropping out of NATO maybe save Europe? Those who control things seem way too confident they're safe, even as they welcome maniacs. Maybe if they knew countries outside of Europe wouldn't come to their aid, perhaps they'd find a way to reverse the invasion and they'd stop poking the bear.

Another contrary thought. Is global civilization really better off with a united Germany? It does seem their bankers and elitists are fighting WW3, and winning.

What a bunch of ignorant dumbasses! It’s all about an advantageous starting point in negotiations.

This is a genius dealing with fools. This is going to be soooo easy.

Exactly what France thought in 1933 when Hitler came into power. How did that work out for you, Frenchies?

What Trump said, and is entirely correct about, is that NATO is an outdated model from the WWII/Cold War era. If you analyze it that way, you must have to conclude that he is correct. Were doing these countries no favor by providing them defense. Yeah, I know it’s all about the money, but why stand by and pump millions into them while they’re slowly and willingly taken over by Muzzies. Makes no sense unless it’s ONLY about the money...which it is!

Or they will see the United States as not a reliable ally and get serious about an EU Army. Trump’s public comments are just pushing the other European countries closer to Germany & France. Is that what we really want?

No this is not advice. It is an ultimatum. You do this - oh, and that bit about paying your fair share - or we leave you to your own devices. It's like telling a child at the mall throwing a temper tantrum that if he doesn't stop you will leave for home without him.

No, of course not. You don’t understand Trump. This will give him leverage at the bargaining table. He will extract concessions from the European leaders, and get them to pay their share more than they do now.
