"Is it me, or does Donald look a little like George Washington, except for the hairdo?"

Apparently this mag thought so for their Fall 2015 cover...

If there was a huge H-1B visa quota for foreign journalists and lawyers to undercut their wages then the program would be dead in 5 minutes.

“To the rural mind, verbal gymnastics reveal dishonest politicians, biased journalists, and conniving bureaucrats, who must hide what they really do and who they really are.”

John Podesta, poster child.

For so many reasons. And he is who Hillary sent out when she was too overcome by her defeat, snowflake, to address “her people.”

80 years ago the cities of eastern and central Spain lost a war against the military supported by the rest of the (largely rural) country; in the end, the city people with their enlightened communism couldn’t convince people to grow their own food and they were starved out.

Crazy time in history where Hitler got a chance to practice his coming war and Stalin his interventionist foreign policy.

My favorite character that emerged from that fray was Orwell who has outlasted all the military leaders.

Orwell learned some sad lessons in the BS of the left during that war; he joined one of the Marxist groups fighting for the government that was eventually eliminated by the more mainstream communists, and eventually fled for his life (for fear of communists, not the military/”fascist” opponents). He described the misinformation campaign used to consolidate power for the communists, and the outright lies of the war propaganda (victories where there hadn’t even been battles, and no mention of defeats). I guess afterwards he must have felt as Hemmingway did about Cuba...

Hm, You’ve endangered the order in my reading book pile.

Have fogged my brain for years with mostly WW1 and WW2 reading but see I missed this war ‘in between’,

Saw this link which seemed to have some well thought recommendations ... Don’t know if you have any other favorites on the subject? Thinking of starting on the one by Helen Graham. Hemingway is mentioned in one of the books but was unaware of Orwell’s roots until your comment and want more on his life.

Yes, the Spanish Civil War helped line up the adversaries for WWII. Along with the conflicts between the USSR & Japan, China & Japan, the Italian invasions of Albania & Ethiopia, the Winter War between Finland and the USSR, the fighting between the newly-created Poland and the fledgling USSR in the 1920s (even the brief intervention by the US in the Russian Civil War)...These helped line up the sides for WWI part II (aka WWII).

The books listed (at least at first glance) seem to be a pro-Republic (communist) lot; I’d recommend “The Last Crusade” by Warren Carroll for the other side of the story. It describes exactly what the left was doing that triggered the military revolt, and also what the left did in response to it - all whitewashed from history.

Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia is well worth reading. Some background at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homage_to_Catalonia

Nice, I just ordered “The Last Crusade” and you seem to be correct about the other 5 books all being slanted towards the left. So will start with yours first
