It’s easy to imagine that tabloids don’t matter; the Enquirer is a relatively small voice in the media kingdom, with a weekly circulation of only 342,071, down from the 5.9 million it commanded in the 1970s. But that misses the importance of the constant cultural background noise it adds to American life:
There are 37,000 supermarkets in America, with an average of about 10 checkout stands each, and many stands feature a wire rack displaying the Enquirer, the Globe, often the company’s other tab, the National Examiner, and celebrity magazines. According to an industry study, American households make an average of 1.5 trips to the supermarket each week.
Every customer passes by the checkout stand, which means that even people who never purchase a tabloid still absorb the ambient headlines, and those headlines can shape their view of the world.

Let me posit what cost her the election. She is a liar. She is an unindicted criminal preferred over all other men. She is sick and weak and old and she had nothing but warmed over communism for positions. Also she didn’t even come close!!
Plus she did not even have the decency to put down the bottle of Jim Beam and drag her sorry ass over to the Javits Center to thank the throngs of volunteers who had busted their humps for her for TWO YEARS.
If that’s how you treat your friends, why should anybody else like you?
Or Hillary never had a path to victory and stealing the nomination from Bernie Sanders guaranteed the Democrats a loss even stuffed ballot boxes couldn’t counter.
The Enquirer is a loser because the stars are losers. Who wants to read about Meryl Streep? Boring! When Princess Di was around, I always picked it up. Who wants to read about good-girl Kate? And Trump as much as I adore him is not particularly good tabloid reading. All I like are the photos of his incredibly beautiful wife, Melania.
Speaking of her, we need her to give another tv interview. She’s great.
Please. Why can’t she just look in the mirror? She is why she lost.
I know where you’re coming from, Joe, but I think those last two weeks when she was screeching at rallies for what seemed hours on end, did her in. No man was going to vote for this harridan. And no smart woman (me).
These people need help.
She is a bitch. No character at all. Just lust for power and bribes. She was a menace to the future of this country.

She lost because she represented the establishment, which included the media and the GOPe.
I don’t think the media knows how much they are despised, and I mean really despised.
Whew, now we can move away from “The Russians did it!” and place the blame squarely on the National Enquirer, The Globe, People Magazine, etc.

By the time even the mainstream media had to admit that Trump had won, she was probably too drunk to make an appearance. Video of her slurring her words and barely able to stand would have been a major obstacle to her chances of making another try in 2020.
