Commanding general of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post (at 12:01 pm Jan 20th)

Posted on 01/13/2017 9:30:14 AM PST by RoosterRedux

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

Maybe Mattis has no command authority, but Trump sure as hell would not fire this guy without consulting Mattis. I am not arguing with your strict logic. I just saying the PEOTUS would not undercut Mattis without at least asking: Should this guy stay or go?

Mattis will want a combat officer if he can find one.

OK in that case, it’s not 0’s shenanigans.

President-Elect Trump plays chess...

“This must have been ordered by the Trump transition team, since it will take effect the minute he is declared President. My guess is that they want to make sure the multiple threats to the Inaugural parade that have been published all over the Internet will be taken care of in Trump’s favor. The transition team must have had meetings and they possibly determined they could not trust the former leadership.”

Wonder where he was “born to lead” before boarding the DC LIFER Gravy train?

“Article says there will be an interim person.”

A Hussein-Head stooge who probably didn’t object at some time to potentially firing on Americans to protect our enemies.

makes sense, but does he get to appoint a “head breaker” to take over at 12:01 before he takes office?

I’d like to suspect yes, but for some reason I don’t think he can.

I’d love for some ass kickin hippy puncher to take the reigns at high noon.

But it’s awesome he got a bronze star for sitting in DC...

I have always had a disdain for scrambled egg political soldiers, and I reckon I always will.

One thing I noticed about Schwartz was during his briefing about DC preparations, he kept repeating over and over about a peaceful transition to power.

This was never mentioned in 2008 with Obama during the DC preparations.

He would make me nervous as well with that type of repeated statement, almost like he is inviting something to happen. I bet Trump and Mattis believe Schartz could not be trusted tin inforce law and order if it got out of hand.

He’s made it to Major General without once commanding troops in combat, mostly working in DC.

I can see where Mattis would want to make room for someone else.

Sigh. I know bureaucrats are a necessary evil in many cases, and don’t fault him per se for that.

He was appointed command during the summer of ‘08. Obama had not yet been elected.

I’m thinking the DC commander of the USANG has been a political tool.

That would probably be a safe bet!

it just amazes me (and in a good way) that the Trump team is on to every last detail of everything

The guy's been amazing me since day one. First, it was getting onto the ballots in all 50 states, which sounds like a bureaucratic mess all in itself. He's had to fight how own party, the MSM, the government, everyone... every step of the way. He manages to always be 3 or 4 steps ahead of everyone else every step of the way. I don't know how he does it... lots of smarts, lots of skill in picking the right people to work with him.

The guy is nothing short of a genius it seems.

Schwartz is loyal to OBAMA. Since obama is now staying in DC he can very easily plan a coup with the help of Schwartz and the national guard.
