Trump’s Model First Press Conference
American Thinker ^ | January 13, 2017 | E. Jeffrey Ludwig

Donald Trump is taking office amidst a barrage of disparagement and hostility. So-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” actually underestimates the nature of this hostility by putting a somewhat tongue-in-cheek psychiatric label on the rage and irrational break with reality that said “syndrome” actually is. This syndrome is demented and demonic as it rages in Hollywood, various press venues, and on the streets. One cannot help but recall the reaction of the Southern states when Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860. Within a month after Lincoln was sworn in, the Southern states began seceding and early in his first term, Fort Sumter was fired upon from Charleston, SC harbor.

Despite this acute anti-Trump sentiment, at his first press conference since his election, Trump greeted the vehement opposition with a presentation that was rational and forthright.

It was very important that the president-elect address the issue of the relevance of the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, and the related issues of conflicts of interest resulting from his vast worldwide business assets and dealings. Despite the campaign suggestions that the Clinton Foundation is being run as a “pay to play” influence-peddling operation, a thoughtful public has remained concerned about the influence of Trump’s worldwide business dealings on the conduct of his presidency.

“The entire proceeding from beginning to end, including sharp rebukes for BuzzFeed and CNN, was a breath of fresh air. It demonstrated his financial integrity, perspective on foreign affairs, and candor in dealing with the press.”

Fresh air is an understatement. This a bloodless revolution to overthrow the establishment press.

This seems like a good model for future pressers. If we think he needs to go harder on the press, we’ll let him know.

Wouldn’t bother me a bit if the blue states seceded.

I pray with all my heart that Trump, with our support, wins this war. The media has been the single most malign influence in this country, aside from academia, in advancing the left’s agenda. Ever since the advent of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk radio, and then FOX when it was still unreservedly conservative, the msm has come out into the open regarding their partisanship.

And NPR/PBS has got to go, or at least be cut off from taxpayer funding. For app half the country, being forced to fund these outlets is like being forced to pay for the bullets used to execute you.

The profits of foreign entities would be deposited in the U.S. Treasury.

Untrue. Not even close.

The payments made by foreign governments to Trump's hotels will go to the Treasury.

I still can't get over the fact that the incoming President of the United States flatly refused to "give a question" to a reporter from a super-establishment, totally liberal-biased news organization, and then — when its reporter became apoplectic and started shouting — directly, loudly, and explicitly labeled the reporter and his employer 'fake news', the very label that had been dreamt up by the MSM back in November to delegitimize counter news stories from the new media.

He called them out in front of the world, and was not disputed! All the little CNN cockroach could do was splutter "that is not appropriate," which is all he could say because he couldn't say anything like "CNN has always insisted on the highest journalistic standards" or "CNN has never broadcast a story that hasn't been verified by at least two sources" because obviously both of those statements would be utterly untrue and everyone knows it.

He called them out and there wasn't a thing they could say in their own defense. Later that day they issued a long screed in which they tried to justify themselves, which was forgotten the minute it was released. Not even their "colleagues" are defending them.

This amazes me. It's almost like the Berlin Wall coming down.

Agreed. That press conference was an amazing moment and I will always remember it. The man has brass balls!

Shep Smith's half-hearted effort on daytime FNC is the only instance worth mentioning.

Radio host Ben Shapiro certainly has “Trump Derangement Syndrome”.
He supported CNN today on his radio show. He suppose to be a conservative but is really just a curmudgeon at 33 years old.

Of all the institutions controlled by the Left, mainstream media is the most powerful. They back up all the others when they spew their leftist lies.

Take out the leftist media and the others become significantly less powerful.

Cable companies offer bundles that include the leftist media. Tell your cable companies you want a la carte programming so we can choose the channels we want.

There is a guy who had such promise (and I’m thinking about his awesome post-Baltimore panel discussion statements), and who just threw it away with his extreme #nevertrump insanity.

Thanks for the correction.

Although it appears that Mr. Smith's defense was rooted in his theory that the President doesn't have the right to "belittle or delegitimize" any "journalist."

This is pretty much the standard MSM line: they are special, in a special, protected class of human being.

Of course they get to determine who is a "journalist" and who is not, who gets the protection of the First Amendment and who does not, who gets their stories labeled as "fake news" and who is protected from that label.

But anyway, you are right and I stand corrected. One of their colleagues, Shepard Smith, did defend them.

The only “public” concerned about Trump’s finances are the leftists who want to make political hay over it.

He said so many noteworthy things in the press conference, and all the reporters could ask about was hacking! And that stupid fake “dossier”. I didn’t hear questions about the long and detailed explanation given by his attorney about his business arrangements! That was the main purpose of the press conference! But I guess asking intelligent questions about complex issues isn’t their strong point.

Anyone who doubts DJT's power need only look at Megyn Kelly, who went from MSM superstar to on-the-way-out in about five seconds, after a single stinging comment by Trump.

She thought she was absolutely untouchable, invulnerable, someone who determines other people's fate and completely in control of her own.

Now she's in the knacker's yard. Next stop is the shoe department.

She fought the Trump and the Trump won.
