Obama Ends Exemption for Cubans Who Arrive Without Visas (will send them back)
NY Times ^ | Jan. 12, 2017 | JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS and FRANCES ROBLES

President Obama said Thursday that he was terminating the 22-year-old policy that has allowed Cubans who arrived on United States soil without visas to remain in the country and gain legal residency, an unexpected move long sought by the Cuban government.

“Effective immediately, Cuban nationals who attempt to enter the United States illegally and do not qualify for humanitarian relief will be subject to removal, consistent with U.S. law and enforcement priorities,” Mr. Obama said in a statement. “By taking this step, we are treating Cuban migrants the same way we treat migrants from other countries.”

The move places a finishing touch on Mr. Obama’s efforts as president to end a half-century of hostility between the United States and Cuba and to establish normalized relations and diplomatic ties with a government American presidents have long sought to isolate and punish.

The action came through a new Department of Homeland Security regulation and a deal with the Cuban government, which Mr. Obama said had agreed to accept the return of its citizens.

People from Cuba were fleeing an oppressive communist regime. That is why the US was willing to accept them, way back. The wet-foot, dry-foot policy already made it harder for them to get to the US, because the US could intercept them and send them back, before they reached US soil.

Now Obama is basically refusing to let any of them in.

But it's fine to allow thousand of "migrants" from the Middle East, many of whom are terrorists.

I hope Trump will reverse this Obama policy along with all the others.

Hoping is useless.

MAKING sure he reverses this and MANY other things this POS has done is paramount.

He said he’d listen to the people.

Well, I’ll go and post right now how Important it is to reverse this right away.

obama HATES HATES HATES America, and I HATE anyone that voted for him.

They are America’s enemies.

This is a deal that Obama cut with Raul Castro, to return escaping Cubans back to tender embrace of Comrade Castro.

Marco Rubio admitted that changes to the Cuban Adjustment Act were needed, but argued that “we must work to ensure that Cubans who arrive here to escape political persecution are not summarily returned to the regime.” The senator has been a staunch opponent of Obama’s efforts to normalize relations with Havana.

He also echoed the sentiments of Florida congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who opposed the elimination of the Cuban Medical Professional Parole Program. The program allowed Cuban doctors to seek asylum in the U.S. “For decades, the Castro regime has forced thousands of doctors to go abroad as a tool of its foreign policy,” said Sen. Rubio.

No, he wants Trump to reverse it so the media and Dems can crow about him having a double standard and so they can undermine his efforts to close the borders and get rid of the rest.

I think this also stems from this ridiculously-narcissistic President’s butthurt that he wasn’t exactly received as a hero when he visited Cuba. He’s whining, “See? See? I’m a cool guy! See? Please see!”

Most pointless president ever.

The truth is that this boy is a failed experiment in white-guilt. Bad idea at the start, terrible outcome at the end.

Guess they don’t become as good of a future voter for the Democrats as the South of the Border crowd do.

Somehow I think Trump could have made a better deal.

I don’t. Not because I agree with Obama much. The truth is we don’t need new Cubans. While I admire and welcome the old-guard Cubans who fled Castro and know what communism was all about, there is no guarantee that new generations of Cubans share that same opinion. We should not expect anyone from a socialist state to completely abandon the ideology any more than we can expect anyone to abandon Islamism when they enter. It’s time to start severely restricting who comes here. Those who are hostile to our way of life should not be welcome.
