I Visited The Church Of Scientology. Here’s What Happened
The Federalist ^ | January 5, 2017 | Bre Payton

Last week I wandered into the Church of Scientology in Pasadena, California, and what happened during my visit made me afraid for the church's members.

While shopping along Raymond Avenue in Old Town Pasadena last week, my friend and I stopped into the Church of Scientology to take a free personality test that was advertised on an A-frame chalkboard sign just outside.

As a Christian, I wasn’t really searching for guidance or salvation, but I wanted to hear the Church of Scientology’s elevator pitch. I wanted to know what they said to make people fork over massive amounts of money, or even distance themselves from family members in an effort to work their way up the church’s ranks.

Don’t know what that’s supposed to mean but if you have a problem with Mormons, start your own thread. There is no need to co opt this one that is about Scientology. This is about something that is being exposed on a TV series that we are interested in - not about our dislike of another RELIGION...

Not a fan of LDS. But living in NY, one doesn’t see many. I’ve never met one that I know of. Sounds pretty culty. After the Mormon’s attempted to destroy Trump, I have little use for their ‘religion ‘. Glenn Beck showed his true colors and I am so sorry that I voted for Romney in 2012. (Though I’d still would have had him than 4 more years of Barky).

Even so called tea party candidate Mia Love didn’t vote for Trump. Seems they vote by religious dictate there in Utah.

I've never been able to find the answer to this question: it calls itself a "church" and uses a modified Christian cross as its symbol; but what is Scientology's teaching regarding Jesus of Nazareth or the Bible?

It's been well over 40 years, so I don't recall much. Didn't get in that deep. But I do remember a belief in God and creator. I don't recall anything of Scientology regarding Jesus or the Bible. When I say I learned things from the experience, it was from a psychological viewpoint.

They continually have clearing sessions, interrogating one on why they have emotional upset in their life, and dig at the root causes. They can get intense. It did help me to get at the root of some problems with family and friends. Confront your fears, or in really bad conflicts avoid the troublemaker. I know, common sense, but it did help in dealings with people.

Here's another example. People misconstrue what they read and study, and fail to nail down the material. When reading, if you come across a word or phrase you don't know or understand, then look it up and learn the meaning before proceeding with your reading. You will find that you do much better in understanding the subject material and passing tests. Common sense? You'd be surprised how many people read material, glossing over things they don't understand, and then fail to grasp any true value from what they read. I used these concepts to ace material and become successful. Scientology had lots of study sessions like this, where one was queried after reading material.

I had a falling out with it because I used logic and refuted many of their tenets. They had various people up the chain try to convince me to stay, but I left. I don't hold anything against them, because I benefitted from the experience and can't say they did any harm to me. Rather, it made me successful and wealthy. It is what it is; you decide your own path in life.

Thank you for your thoughtful answer. It sounds like you did benefit on the psychological level and were able to walk away, which many have testified is not easy to do.

As a Christian, if they do not believe Christ is part of the Triune Being of the Only God, I deplore their use of a cross symbol.

Their “test” using what they call the “e-meter” is measuring GSR (galvanic skin response) to electrical stimulation. That makes it essentially a “primitive polygraph”. Normal polygraph measures GSR, blood pressure changes & breathing rate with the theory being “guilt” and questions regarding that guilt will correlate to those three measurements. (For the record I am not a defender of polygraph !) In many people skin resistivity will change if asked personal “emotionally charged” questions. The Scientologist “examiner” uses these responses to guide his questions and to manipulate his “mark”. Goal being to perform a complete “cash-ectomy” where all cash & fungible personal property is removed from the “mark”.

As a Christian, if they do not believe Christ is part of the Triune Being of the Only God, I deplore their use of a cross symbol.

Trinity:

found in the Book of MORMON        -----------   rejected in the Doctrines and Covenants

Book of Mormon:

Now Zeezrom said: Is there more than one God? And he answered, No. (Alma 11:28-29)

...and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil. (Alma 11:44)

...doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen. (2 Nephi 31:21)

...praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end. (Mormon 7:7)

...power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son--And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth. And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, (Mosiah 15:3-5)

...of Jared, that whoso should possess this land of promise, from that time henceforth and forever, should serve him, the true and only God, or they should be swept off when the fulness of his wrath should come upon them. (Ether 2:8)

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name." (3 Nephi 9:15)

"And again the Lord called others, and said unto them likewise; and he gave unto them power to baptize. And he said unto them: On this wise shall ye baptize; and there shall be no disputations among you. Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words and desireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them--Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them. And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say, calling them by name, saying: Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. And then shall ye immerse them in the water, and come forth again out of the water. And after this manner shall ye baptize in my name; for behold, verily I say unto you, that the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost are one; and I am in the Father, and the Father in me, and the Father and I are one...And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one." (3 Nephi 11:22-27, 36)

Doctrine and Covenants:

According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was, that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end thereof, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest. (Section 121:32)

And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that covenant is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out of the world, because they are not joined by me, saith the Lord, neither by my word; when they are out of the world it cannot be received there, because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory; for my house is a house of order, saith the Lord God. And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them--Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths--then shall it be written in the Lamb's Book of Life, that he shall commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever. Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them. (Section 132:18-20)

Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods. (Section 132:37)

Dang!

MormonISM only requires 10% max from it's members to be able to reach the highest level in Mormon Heaven!

Greta Van Susteren and her attorney husband (a self-described "ambulance chaser") are members of the Church of Scientology. They live in The Swamp, Washington, DC.

She soon will pop up as host of an hour-long evening news-based show on the radical, leftist cable network, MSNBC, where she will be surrounded by unhinged nutcases similar to those who surround her in her Scientology Temple.

Please spare me the protestations of how sweet and fair Greta is...and what a great interviewer she is.

Confucius say you can judge people by the company they keep.

Leni,

Greta is the ONLY scientologist that I ever gave a pass because of her deep devotion to our military and police. But I couldn’t help to think that half of ever dollar she makes goes to the cult. 1/2 of a million dollar so that the “thetans”(aliens blown up in a volcano), will stop inhabiting her body.

Have you seen HBO’s Going Clear? If you haven’t, you must!

Elsie, you seem to have missed the point of this thread.

For the second time, please do not waste bandwidth posting to me. I do not want to hear about your anti-Mormon obsession.

I grew up with plenty of Mormons in our school and formed my own opinion that their belief system was not for me. I don’t need your rants on my ping page.

Then ignore them.

I didn't grow up with ANY Mormons in our school and discovered; by reading what LDS headquarters has printed over the years; that their belief system; while using Christian terminology; was nothing at all like what almost 2000 years of history has delivered.

I'll use every opportunity to broadcast this message.

You may now continue to rant on Scientology.
