More States Consider Working Around the Electoral College

Frustrated after seeing another candidate secure the presidency without winning the national popular vote, mostly Democratic lawmakers in several capitols want their states to join a 10-year-old movement to work around the Electoral College.

In states including Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Mexico, legislators have said they plan to introduce legislation that would require their state's Electoral College voters cast ballots for the presidential candidate who earns the most votes nationwide, regardless of the statewide results.

"Every vote in this country should have equal weight. The Electoral College is a relic of a bygone era, and we need to change this system," said Connecticut state Sen. Mae Flexer, who filed a bill with several fellow Democrats requiring Connecticut to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Pretty sure the solidly republican Ohio legislature will shoot that idea down quickly.

Every vote in this country should have equal weight

So their solution is to eliminate the value of the votes in their states in order to allow CA and NY to be the only 2 states that determine the election?

Progressiveness is a degenerative mental disease. The longer one practices it, the stupider they become.

It is serious and has been going on for a long time. National Popular Vote

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Explanation It has been enacted into law in 11 states with 165 electoral votes (CA, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, RI, VT, WA). It will take effect when enacted by states with 105 more electoral votes. Most recently, the bill was passed by a bipartisan 40–16 vote in the Republican-controlled Arizona House, 28–18 in Republican-controlled Oklahoma Senate, 57–4 in Republican-controlled New York Senate, and 37–21 in Democratic-controlled Oregon House. It has passed one house in 12 additional states with 96 electoral votes (AR, AZ, CO, CT, DE, ME, MI, NC, NM, NV, OK, OR).

The Electoral College is a relic of a bygone era, and we need to change this system," said Connecticut state Sen. Mae Flexer.

"The First Amendment is a relic of a bygone era, and we need to change this system," said Connecticut state Sen. Mae Flexer.

"The right to bear arms is a relic of a bygone era, and we need to change this system," said Connecticut state Sen. Mae Flexer.

Wow, that was easy, wasn't it?

Then the state’s electors would be required to go against the state’s voters if they didn’t agree with the national popular vote?

This would seem to nullify the voters of the state in this case.

Wouldn’t there be a constitutional challenge to this?

Well that's the damnedest case of Constitutional nullification I've heard of.

What, now they'll just ask the State Democrat Fascist party who should win and no matter who votes for an opponent of the democrat party or the wrong democrat candidate, they'll give the electoral votes to the Fascist the party approves of?

From their point of view, a century of gerrymandering, Federal interventions based on false interpretations of various parts of the Constitution, and outright ballot box stuffing didn't work, I guess they don't have much else they can try.

Well, other than making some Fascist "President for Life".

What we need to do is make it impossible for illegals to vote. Democrat’s popular vote lead will go away when only citizens are voting, like in California.

Completely constitutional. The constitution says state legislature can choose and instruct their elector college voters however they want. Doesn’t have to involve voting at all, they can directly assign, they can draw lots, or they can pin it on the results of the national election.

Since it’s completely constitutional there’s nothing to intervene on. Of course that might not stop SCOTUS, they get pretty random sometimes, but they shouldn’t.

I have no problem with this, as long as we, across the board, enact and enforce guaranteed voter ID laws to ensure only 1) citizens are allowed to vote and 2) said citizens can only vote one time.

I firmly believe Hillary the Pig only won a majority of votes cast because of rampant voter fraud. The same type of fraud that the RAT party has perpetrated for decades.

Right up until a great many city dwellers leave for decent jobs in other areas, and they become ‘keep our jobs’ voters. Kinda like their filibuster idiocy. The unintended negative consequences of proggy/Democrat ideas are always fun to watch.
