"Based on the tremendous cost and cost overruns of the Lockheed Martin F-35, I have asked Boeing to price-out a comparable F-18 Super Hornet!," Trump wrote on Twitter....

Yes. He has said many times that he had a pen and a phone and has no need to mess around with Congress or bureaucratic red tape.
No! Wait! He never said that! You just pretended he said that!

Want to bring in military weapon systems at low cost? Here’s how. Write one mission statement that you want the weapon to accomplish. Don’t change it until the weapon is delivered.
Don’t try to make a single weapon all things to all branches of the service.
Contractor derives requirements based on mission statement. No requirement creep, no cost overruns.

It doesn’t actually change the fact the F-35 is a POS flying anvil that is weighed down by so much mission creep and politics that it is amazing it gets into the air.
If the F-15, 16 or 18s had the history of the F-35 we would still be flying F-104s (not that would be a terrible thing).
GET THE F-35 BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL MISSION AS AN MRF!!!
GET THE F-22 FLYING AGAIN AS THE AIR SUPERIORITY FRAME!!!
So simple, only Trump could do it!!

The F-35 may be a much better plane, but we currently look like we have missions which do not NEED the F-35’s capabilities.
For such missions, it makes more sense to use cheaper aircraft, rather than putting wear on expensive F-35 airframes.
