U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Thursday that because of the high cost of Lockheed Martin Corp's F-35 fighter, he had asked Boeing Co to offer a price for a "comparable F-18 Super Hornet."

"Based on the tremendous cost and cost overruns of the Lockheed Martin F-35, I have asked Boeing to price-out a comparable F-18 Super Hornet!," Trump wrote on Twitter....

So he intends to Sole Source to Boeing, vs an open contract competition?

That's what you got from this? You do realize that a major part of the cost overruns are because politicians meddle and allow their pet contractors to seriously underbid and then don't punish them for grossly scalping the taxpayer after they get the contract.

He's telling both companies that if they want to do business they need to get their acts together.

The F-18s would be for naval use, as the Navy is the most short of aircraft at the current time. The F-15 cannot be used on a carrier.

“Restart the F22 program!”

True. It's too late to cancel F-35, besides it's not as bad as some are suggesting. But the whole concept of replacing nearly everything with 1 platform is not good. It might be good for mini air force that is having 2-3 combat squadrons all together. Even the mid size countries do not rely on 1 platform, RAF or Italians will be flying F-35s together with Eurofighters. In case of previous generation frames, F-15 SE would be a better choice.

Excellent first reduce the cost of the 2 new AF1’s by billion, now scrap the worthless over priced F-35 or make them reduce the cost by billions.

The Military is one of the big PORK projects congress critters use. Fraud Continue In the Middle of the Government Shutdown http://www.washingtonsblog.com/201

Trump is right to consider canceling the F-35

Why not bring the F-22 back into production, drop the F-35, and build some more A-10’s?

“now scrap the worthless over priced F-35”

It won't happen. It's too late, too much money has already been invested in development/production, 200 were already produced, many more are on order, including orders from 10 foreign buyers. It's “too big to fail”.

“build some more A-10’s?”

A-10 is concept from the 70’s, it's great to fight savages (and they should keep it in several squadrons for that purpose) but would be useless in case of full scale war against any enemy with decent air defense.
