Now look here, smoke signals work just fine. No need for letting loose birds we can eat over the fire while signaling with smoke.

The F-35 is woefully *underqualified* for true CAS. It’s too fast, too fuel-inefficient and doesn’t have any armor.

It also doesn’t have a working gun for at least the next two years and when it does come online it only has 250 rounds for the gun.

The Navy’s DDG 1000 Program needs a serious look over as well. LCS stands for Little Crappy Ships.

Sorry I meant the P-39 of course.

You realize the top WW2 ace flying an American plane flew the P-39 right?

Trump is a quick learner - the hallmark of a good CEO. And his judgement is superb.

I bet that the Boeing company was a BIG contributor to the Clinton Foundation. A-ha...payback was promised but Trump was elected and put a stop to this lobby

The F-22 was never intended for use on carriers - navalization is a lot more complex and expensive than just slapping a tailhook on the back, a naval refueling probe on the front and calling it a day.

Agreed, my good FRiend.

It's also not totally necessary to have the same platform across all services, for the reason that you suggest.

That said, the F22 is a twin engine jet, and it's much easier to engineer a tailhook between the engine bays.

The other big issues are beefier bogies and corrosion control, which one suspects could be overcome in a new iteration of Raptors.

I have spoken with Raptor pilots, and they are more than effusive in their praise of the platform.

At the very least, a quick study (not involving the Pentagon weenies that gave us the F35) would make some valuable predictions, n'est ce pas?

.

IIRC, they did look at doing a navalized Raptor but decided that they would have had to compromise the aircraft too much.

Er, correction - found my reference material. There won’t be a navalized version of the Air Force F-22 because it stalls well short of typical carrier approach and landing speeds. The proposal at the time to get the Navy a version was to fit the F-22 with swing-wings like the F-14 but that was a non-starter as it destroyed the stealth aspects of the craft and therefore was considered not worth the time.

This was Lockheed’s navalized F-22 idea:

Never got past initial studies to full engineering.

That Super Hornet is an AMAZING plane! I got to see one demonstrated at an Air Show one year. All I can say is..WOW!

I haven’t a clue about the f-35 but somewhere along the line I heard that it’s not well liked. I think it was that one anyway..

Good for Trump!! Too many politicians stand there, bent over, waiting for zero grease on our dime.

Excellent time to challenge lockheed but an F-18? Not the right airplane.

How about starting with 250 or so F-15SE aircraft?

He has the wrong advisors, is too full of himself to know his limitations or is just poking lockheed as they need to be poked for their and the DOD procurement mess that is the F-35.

Nothing was comparable to the German Tiger either, but we had zillions more Shermans that were so much cheaper and easier to repair in the field. Also, we could pump them out by the hundreds.

I wonder if this going to Boeing has anything to do with the recent announcement by ?China? of the purchase of so many Boeings? Maybe Trump has thoughts about nixing the deal in order to protect our inventions from China? The F18 could be a replacement ploy. Just wondering.....................

It is billions over budget and 8 years behind schedule. Trump operates “On Time and Under Budget.” A new world is dawning. For once, looks like we the taxpayers are going to get our money’s worth!!!

The mania of having a 1 size fits all plane like the F35 is and always has been a mistake. We need different planes for different roles at reasonable prices.

I can definately see an era of business folks from each party making runs for president & governors and politicians being religated to legislative duty. Especially after Trump. I won’t say if he works out bc he surely will excel and set the model.
