Senator Murray Statement on Reported Nomination of Andrew Puzder for Secretary of Labor
Senator Patty Murray ^ | Dec 08 2016 | Senator Patty Murray

Posted on 12/09/2016 12:06:09 PM PST by mdittmar

(Washington, D.C.) — Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on the reported nomination of Andrew Puzder for Secretary of Labor.

“With the nomination of Andrew Puzder, President-elect Trump has sent another clear signal that he has no intention of fulfilling his campaign promise to put workers and retirees first—instead, he’s bent on building an Administration made up of billionaires and the staunchest allies for big business, special interests, and Wall Street that he can find.

“The Department of Labor has significant and broad reach—from workers’ and labor rights to health and safety, workplace harassment, workforce investments, disability resources, pensions plans and so much more—so I am eager to meet Mr. Puzder to discuss in detail his plans and vision for the agency. At the outset, I am deeply concerned by Mr. Puzder’s record of standing in the way of progress on issues that would make an immediate difference in the lives of working families, in particular raising the minimum wage and ensuring equal pay for equal work. And I have serious questions about whether a CEO who is comfortable reinforcing harmful stereotypes about women and who is so dismissive of workplace discrimination issues can be trusted to uphold core missions of the Department.

“I am also alarmed by Mr. Puzder’s vocal support for eliminating the new overtime rule and other basic protections the current Department has worked to finalize. If President-elect Trump truly wants to stand up for workers and retirees, he and Mr. Puzder will commit to ensuring these protections are fully implemented.

“Working families in my home state of Washington and across the country are looking for strong leadership for the Department and someone who is going to be on their side—and not just for those already at the top. So I will work tirelessly to make sure their voices and priorities are heard loud and clear as part of a rigorous vetting and hearing process for Mr. Puzder.”

Trump should really frost them by announcing he’s planning on changing the name from Department of Labor to Department of Employers.

I think workers finally figured out this year that billionaires like them better than Democrats do. :)

Statement from Mr. Puzder:

“My job as a business person is to maximize profits for my company, employees and shareholders. My job as the Secretary of Labor, if confirmed, is to serve U.S. citizen workers – that is my moral and constitutional duty. The public spoke loud and clear in this election, and delivered a mandate to protect American workers. It makes no economic sense to spend trillions on welfare and jobless benefits for out of work Americans while bringing in foreign workers to fill jobs in their place. “As Secretary of Labor, I will fiercely defend American workers and implement my piece of the ten point plan the President-elect laid out. President-elect Trump’s plan to establish new immigration controls will boost wages and ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first. Hire American and Buy American is our policy, and the one supported by voters in both parties. I will not provide guest worker visas to companies that break the rules, and will support reforms to raise wages for Americans — I know the system from the inside, and will be the best champion American workers have had. With 94 million Americans outside the labor force, and massive unemployment in our inner cities and among minority workers, my job will be to help these workers find jobs. We also have large unemployment in our immigrant communities, and these communities benefit the most from clamping down on guest worker programs that compete against them.”

I think the democrats are in a mode that if Trump picked Obama or Hillary for a position they would say it was the worst choice ever.

This isn’t about good choices vs bad choices. It’s about making Trump look bad regardless what he does. It works against normal politicians but Trump perplexes them. They expected Trump to fold when they dragged out the woman that Trump supposedly harassed. Anyone else would have. Trump stunned them by actually fighting back. Today the accusers, like Cains’ accusers are nowhere to be found. Had any of the charges actually been real, they never would have let up.

You have to understand that she is voted in by the counties West of the Cascades. She is a dim 40 watt bulb and a party hack and is only in that position due to longevity. She is a reflection of the intelligent quotient of those voters.

According to Murray, Bin Laden built day care centers and we need to be more like the Taliban.

Must be a good pick if Senator Murray has her knickers in a knot over it

Doesn't wear knickers...they interfere with her grip on her broom

“instead, he’s bent on building an Administration made up of billionaires and the staunchest allies for big business, special interests, and Wall Street that he can find.”

Okay, let’s hire a cabinet of janitors, street sweepers, and fast food people, who have about as much experience in business problems as a rock, and figure out how to clean up the mess the libs hung on us.

I would think that if you are going to brainstorm possible ideas to turn our problems around, you might want to use people that have displayed success in the area. And not people trying to get $15 an hour. They may be very good at their job, But wre need big picture people.

Let’s hope the Republicans don’t stab Trump in the back. I definitely don’t trust Graham or McCain.
