When I was little, I dropped a piece of dry ice in the cats water bowl. It freaked the cat out so bad it nearly died of dehydration.

Yes. Among the hazards are accidental immersion resulting in frozen/frostbitten body parts, and asphixiation if working with it in an enclosed space. Had a guy at work pass out and hit his head on the floor that way.
