Wednesday on CNBC’s “Power Lunch,” the CEO of U.S. Steel Mario Longhi said after the election of Donald Trump, he has “felt an environment of positive optimism where forces are converging to provide for a better environment,” which he hopes means he can rehire up to 10,000 employees.

Longhi said, “I have not felt an environment of positive optimism where forces are converging to provide for a better environment in quite a while. And this is pretty widespread. Customer suppliers, you know, throughout the communities.”

He added, “I’m more than happy to bring back the employees that we were forced to lay off during the depression … It could be close to 10,000.”

Well let’s praise the good Lord who prepared, covered, and sent Donald Trump on a mission bigger than anything Donald could come up with alone.

Thanks for the false alternative. I’m in favor of market priced (i.e. cheap) steel. If we have to import it then so be it, but why exactly does that have to be the case?

Have not seen any fake news surveys, but my guess is that MANY union guys voted for Trump.

Because we can’t build a structure for our southern wall with steel made in China!

I already did. You are in favor of cheap imports, that in no way helps the US economy when we ship our dollars overseas. We need to keep those dollars here to help build our economy.

Remember Trump’s Boeing tweet? He’s not going to let any company take advantage of us

You are in favor of cheap imports,

Really? Show me where I said that.

that in no way helps the US economy when we ship our dollars overseas.

So by your reasoning Texas should tax imports from Illinios, because it "in no way helps the [Texas] economy when we ship our dollars [out of state]".

We need to keep those dollars here to help build our economy.

"We need to keep those dollars here [in Texas] to help build our economy."

Your reasoning. Not mine.

How was Boeing taking advantage of us?

Trump thinks they were asking too much for a new Air Force One.

“How was Boeing taking advantage of us?”

Overcharging, knowing there’s no end to government money.

Last time I looked Illinois and Texas are both in the United States.

Maybe you should take a class in economics and learn about deficit trading.

He was probably right. I don't think I'd swing the brush too wide though. That was a government contract, and a unique one. Most of what Boeing sells is regulated by market competition.

Last few jobs I was on, it was obvious that many were pro Trump.

1-Political talk was low...DURING an election year.

2-NO ONE really had anything positive to say about Hillary.

3-Some people ACTUALLY talked well of Trump.

4-The OFFICIAL Local input of the election seemed almost nil.

I have NEVER seen a presidential election where the Local and the guys were so...unenthused. Look at Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Autoworkers union and auto suppliers that are union, in Michigan. And Steel workers and coal miners in Pennsylvania. Plus the industries in Ohio. ALL these states went Trump.

At the very least, a lot of union workers stayed home.

Maybe you should take a class in economics and learn about deficit trading.

Then perhaps you can show me an economics textbook that contains the phrase "deficit trading".

Maybe it is you who should take a course, one in basic logic. How do you get this...

You are in favor of cheap imports

from this...

I’m in favor of market priced (i.e. cheap) steel. If we have to import it then so be it, but why exactly does that have to be the case?

Please explain.

The formula for GDP is: GDP = C + I + G + (Ex - Im), where “C” equals spending by consumers, “I” equals investment by businesses, “G” equals government spending and “(Ex - Im)” equals net exports, that is, the value of exports minus imports.
___
So if net exports is negative, the GDP goes down

Yeah, so assuming your assumption is correct, your next brand new car might cost you 12 dollars more, so screw American steel workers, right?

OK sharpy before I retired a couple years ago, I was a pipefitter in a plant that made the piping for high pressure gas compressors for the oil industry. All the thousands of tons of pipe we used was cheap foreign imports, the same thing other companies making the same kind of pipe used. That was done to stay competitive with one another. Now, if American made pipe was the same price, all the companies could have used that pipe instead and still be competitive. That money would have employed American workers instead of foreign workers making the same pipe. Do you understand that simple logic??
