Trump’s Taiwan call wasn’t a blunder. It was brilliant.

Relax.

Breathe.

Donald Trump’s phone call with the president of Taiwan wasn’t a blunder by an inexperienced president-elect unschooled in the niceties of cross-straits diplomacy.

It was a deliberate move — and a brilliant one at that.

The phone call with President Tsai Ing-wen was reportedly carefully planned, and Trump was fully briefed before the call, according to The Post. It’s not that Trump was unfamiliar with the “Three Communiques” or unaware of the fiction that there is “One China.”

Trump knew precisely what he was doing in taking the call. He was serving notice on Beijing that it is dealing with a different kind of president — an outsider who will not be encumbered by the same Lilliputian diplomatic threads that tied down previous administrations. The message, as John Bolton correctly put it, was that “the president of the United States [will] talk to whomever he wants if he thinks it’s in the interest of the United States, and nobody in Beijing gets to dictate who we talk to.”

Amen to that.

And if that message was lost on Beijing, Trump underscored it on Sunday, tweeting: “Did China ask us if it was OK to devalue their currency (making it hard for our companies to compete), heavily tax our products going into their country (the U.S. doesn’t tax them) or to build a massive military complex in the middle of the South China Sea? I don’t think so!” He does not need Beijing’s permission to speak to anyone. No more kowtowing in a Trump administration.

That may well be. I don’t know. My POINT is that whatever has been bandied about AFTER the call is just manipulation, image control, or policy control, or whatever.

I was primarily talking about his first reception of the call and in speaking to the Taiwan President. Additionally, it was NOT Trump who called her, IIRC.

As I said, in my opinion, this is all just making ‘a mountain out of a mole-hill.’

"I get the feeling none of these people have ever read his damn book."

They HAVE read a one page, double-spaced synopsis, with the suitable bullet points, per the briefer's opinions and prejudices. World leaders lose track of reality when they stop driving themselves.

I read on Drudge Report that it was Bob Dole that set up the call...

Maybe, but I found Savage to be a bit hypocritical yesterday. He pounded trusting Trump during campaign. Why not now? His side was he wants nothing from Trump, so he is free to criticize.

IMHO it is possible that if one were to read three books:

The Art of the Deal by Donald J. Trump
Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky
The Art of War by Sun Tzu

...that person could rule the world.

Somebody call Dr. Savage. He thinks this was a big ole blunder.

Yep and I like Mike a lot.

However, I am finding that Trump is just brilliant and I may have underestimated him even me!!

God bless us

Media:

Trump's phone call with Taiwan president: "Destabilizing! Interferes in China's internal affairs! Breaks long-standing protocol!"

Obama's meddling in the Syrian civil war, leading to mass casualties and mass emigration: "Leading from behind! Disciplined! Effective! Smart!"

Political neophytes were totally confused on this one. It’s ok. They all will catch on eventually.

Great words. Ask China to leave Tibet. Start that first. Wonder if it is past of the sphere of “China One?”

Turns out. The call was arranged by Bob Dole at Trump’s request.

Planned.
