Were having a hard time deciding whether Michael Grab is an artist or a magician, because he creates stunning structure from finely balanced rocks that seem to defy the law of physics.
These seemingly impossible structures require intense concentration and meditative focus. In the video below, Grab spends several minutes nearly frozen, making tiny adjustments until he gets all of the rocks centers of gravity just right.
Over the past few years of practicing rock balance, simple curiosity has evolved into therapeutic ritual, ultimately nurturing meditative presence, mental well-being, and artistry of design, writes Grab in his artist statement.
(Lot's of pictures at the site. Be sure to watch the video at the bottom to see him actually doing it. I still have a hard time believing that it doesn't collapse or that he isn't using some trick)

I have to admit that is impressive. Thanks for sharing.
I checked that out - interesting, but nothing as precarious as what this guy does.
The Inuit stuff tends to be much larger, and more enduring. This guy’s work is astonishing, but more like music ... the art ends when the performance ends.
“No way thats real! The rocks have to be screwed together or something. Theyre not even equally balanced!”

I’ve seen magicians do much better tricks than this one. So, “meh” is all I got to say.
After looking at the video - I’m calling BS.
Maybe it’s severe OCD
So he froze some rocks together lets see if it stands when it warms up !!!
Or if you wanna get cocky...
Does he really get paid to do that? Or is he just an engineering student that dropped out after learning about canter levering.?

Quite a few videos
This is amazing and awesome! I loved the pix at the link, especially the ones that look like a group of people! I found it delightful, worthy of a healthy giggle and I really needed that today!
In the video, I was waiting for those rocks to tumble down onto his feet lol!
Thanks a ton for your post.
Knock yourself out, cupcake, as long as tax dollars are not paying you to stack rocks.
I have one question. Does he have a job or is he doing this on our dime?
These are built from the top down, finding the balance of each new assembly and letting that be the point of contact to what is placed below. Yes, it balances just fine. Likely a bit of glue to keep perching birds, etc. from knocking it apart.
Nope, not BS. I'm more skeptical than most.
I saw a guy pick rocks up off of a seawall and stack them up like this. I watched him for an hour or so.
Wow! Need to show this to the family.
Fun stuff and very creative.
