At least nine people died in a massive fire that destroyed a northern California warehouse that was an artist collective during an electronic music party early Saturday morning and officials said the building had no sprinkler system or working smoke detectors.
Fire Chief Teresa Deloche-Reed said that at least another 25 people are still unaccounted for after the deadly blaze started around 11:30pm in the 1300 block of 31st Avenue during an event advertised as 'Rave Cave' featuring musician Golden Donna's 100% Silk West Coast tour.
'We still have to do a more thorough search of the building and we don't know the potential number of other victims,' Deloche-Reed said.
'In my career of 30 years, I haven't experienced something of this magnitude.'

Who needs sprinklers, smoke alarms, or other fire safety provisions? That’s bourgeois. Burning man, literally? (I do feel sorry for them though. I would not personally wish it on them.)

Horrible! There was probably also a lot of accelerant type of material used by artists (turps and other solvents, paints, etc).
No sprinklers. No smoke alarms. A makeshift stairwell. Clutter everywhere. Young pajama snowflakes taking drugs. What could go wrong?

Saw the news conference by a spokesman for that County’s law enforcement office.
They said 9 are definitely deceased but they are prepared for a “mass casualty” event - with the possibility of 25 or more additional dead. They are having the fire department stabilizer the building before they can get in and get a definite count of those who died. They also set up a hotline phone number so people who want to know about their relatives or friends can call in and find out anything they know so far.
However many it was, this is tragic to the nth degree.

My guess: Old warehouse. Probably never upgraded the old wiring, and had an overloaded electrical system.
My second guess freebasing drugs.
Hopefully, they can have another illegal rave to honor this one.

Reminds one of that Rhode Island nightclub fire in 2003 - 100 dead. I care not what their political or social affiliation is/was, nobody deserves to be burned alive at a party.

My feelings too. Regardless of who they were or the circumstances, this was a horrible thing.
Sad. I have some speculation about these types of events, but I’ll keep them to myself. Lost and troubled souls.
