At some point somebody has to type or write the totals somewhere whether it’s on paper or into a computer. The only other way would be to have a purely electronic system or machines counting paper ballots that upload their totals directly to the state server. But once you network stuff, you open yourself up for hacking or more computer errors.

One way to reduce human error is to have two humans do the same work and have a third human compare their work to make sure they each got the same results. It would take more time and manpower.

Designated observes watch as tabulators work on recounting presidential ballots in Dane County (Wis.) on December 1, 2016 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Yeah, why do Republicans always seem to lose votes in a recount?

About 15% of adults are illiterate. Some vote. Instead of throwing out improper ballots, recount officials try figure out what they were trying to vote for. My $.02...

He's actually down only one vote. The headline is a little misleading. Yes, Trump "lost" two votes but Crooked also lost one vote - for a net loss of one vote for Trump.

I expect there will be similar give and take as we proceed. It should basically be a wash.

To demonstrate how this works, take a big jar of M&Ms and dump them on the table. Now count the different colors as you put them back in the jar. Chances are, you will come up with a slight different count every time, although only a tiny bit here and there.

Exactly. If the recount is using the same process as the first count used, there is NO reason to assume it is more accurate than the first count. It is just as likely that it will be LESS accurate.

If you change from, say, counting by machine to counting by hand, then it’s more likely that count will have a different likelihood of being accurate. But it’s hard to say if it will be more likely or less likely without comparing the different processed used.

With the extra deadline pressure being put on these late recounts, they’re probably more likely to be wrong than the first count was.

Especially in Madison County.

You probably mean Dane County, where Madison the city is located.

“I hear the Dems are slow walking the recount”

They need time to discover 30,000 uncounted absentee ballots under someone’s desk.

If this 1 or 2 vote discrepancies continue for 2 weeks ( December 19 is the date the Electoral College meet ), they’ll have to find 27,500 votes to turn Wisconsin for Hillary.

If I’m not mistaken, Madison, WI is in Dane County. Don’t think there is a Madison County, WI.

It’s a search for ballots without a choice made for POTUS that can be filled in and turned into a vote for H->! .
