Donald Trump’s win leaves Hispanics wondering if their influence has waned on issues

Hispanics, who for more than a decade insisted they were the key to American politics, are now grappling with a life on the outside — stunned that a Republican managed to capture the White House without winning at least a third of their support.

Immigrant rights advocates insist that Latinos did turn out in record numbers, and say they voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton, doubting major media exit polls that showed President-elect Donald Trump captured some 29 percent nationally.

But that leaves another conundrum: If Republicans can win without Hispanic support, that could sap the negotiating power Latinos have claimed on issues such as immigration.

If they're smart, they'll realize that their power has just begun to rise as Trump loves the Hispanic community -- the ones who came here legally and went through the proper process.

Next thing you know, the Democrats will actually have to try to persuade them to go back to their party instead of ignoring them and assuming that they know their place.

most of puerto rico comes to a ny residence and claim benefits..we are in deep debt because of the illegal usurpers and hand out dreggs..p

Like it or not, Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, not “illegal usurpers” and they don’t have to go to a N.Y. residence to claim U.S. benefits.

probably true, but to receive illegal benefits claiming residence in NY is what many were doing when I lived there..
they told me it was something they all did..perhaps i was punked..lol
