Mattis to be secretary of defense, nominating a former senior military officer who led operations across the Middle East to run the Pentagon less than four years after he hung up his uniform, according to people familiar with the decision.

I don’t see DADT coming back. The whole gay issues horse is too far down the track. Allowing women in combat units, I can see that being rolled back because there aren’t any in combat units yet AFAIK (or if there are, it’s a tiny, tiny handful) so it won’t take any work to reverse. I hope and believe that he can also get rid of the general malaise of PC nonsense that has engulfed the military since Obama took office.
Most important thing that has to happen, IMHO.

Rape has increased in the Armed Forces and whats drove it up is homosexual rape. A man should not have to worry about getting raped by another man. All presidents since Washington to GW Bush understood that. Homosexual activity was never conducive to good military order and discipline. Mattis knows this. Hes not a wimp like Ashley Carter.

If anyone did not see the rally, Trump’s announcement was, well, pure Trump. First he told the crowd of about 20,000 people that they had to keep a secret. Then he made the announcement, referring to his pick not as “General Mattis”, but as “Mad Dog Mattis”. The crowd went nuts! Trump reminded them to keep the secret... :-)
Great pick for secretary of defense but the General must take back his comments he made a few years ago in regards to Isreal and the settlements

Very much so! Even most of his peers consider him the most well-read man they know - and he doesn’t just read Thucydides, Sun Tzu, Clausewitz, Mahan, etc.
I completely agree, but look at what has happened since DADT was repealed — a large portion, perhaps even a majority, of society has fully accepted homosexuality as the norm, with the SCOTUS backing them up. I just don’t see that horse going back into the barn any time soon.
I thank God that my retirement papers will now be signed by President Donald Trump!
