This is silliness. If you cannot follow rules, your ballot should be disqualified.
The voter wrote in “Hillary Rubio”.
Update the totals to show that a “Hillary Rubio” candidate got one vote. If the person had intended to vote for Hillary, why not A - fill in her circle or B - write in her name properly?
I get that it’s only one vote but really...at what point does a bit of responsibilty fall on the citizen?

A voter is allowed to vote for Hillary as president and Rubio as VP.

They counted the vote for Hillary. There actually should not have been a discussion. It was a discussion already held Election Day night. Voter intended for her to be president. Voter intent is the rule.

She gets a vote for prez. Rubio gets a vote for VP.

How do we know that that wasn’t a vote for Marco Rubio?

Worth noting some people drew artwork on the ballot, but marked it correctly, with an art drawing around the relevant spot.

People are all different. The 1 hr was all about “every vote must be treated with respect”.

You don’t.

They judged writing in “Hillary” was a good indicator of intent.

Interesting that I heard absolutely no discussion of the rest of the down ballot races. They did not even look at if the voter voted Dem or GOP on down ballot races.

They just tried to get it right. Hillary is more letters than Rubio to write in.

I know we can write in whatever we’d like on a ballot.
I am just saying, if you intend for your candidate to win, why write in half of her name, when she is already on the ballot, and run the risk of your vote not being counted properly? Especially in such a closely contested election.
The voter must have really hated Kaine.
But, it’s only one vote. I think we will survive the WI recount. lol

I applaud the folks trying to get it right....It is just ridiculous that idiots cannot fill out a ballot properly. Millions of dollars are spent with voter outreach and sample ballots each cycle.
I would love a voting system that warned “fill it out properly, or it doesn’t count”.
This isn’t rocket science.

FILL IT OUT PER THE RULES OR IT DOESN’T COUNT.

Objection! This presumes the voter can read. There is no law requiring a voter to be able to read.

Photos on ballots is exactly what they do in many countries with low literacy rates.

I am looking at day 3 spreadsheet.
Near as I can figure 1038 out of 3636 wards recounted Wards

Preliminary - both gained votes ( I don’t care about the others):
Trump: +245
Hillary: +398

The above totals do not contain Milwaukee County numbers.
Milwaukee County counts do not reflect absentee ballot counts - the individual ward recount numbers are way off from the original counts.

Dane is a hand recount ( slow walking) so results will be lagging.

These are the explanations provided by the clerks for difference in numbers between canvass and the recount:

Eau Claire County: Increase of 11 votes in Town of Brunswick and 13 votes in Town of Seymour due to ballots marked incorrectly on Election Day.

Manitowoc County: Increase in 24 votes in Town of Centerville due to a stack ballots missed on Election Day.(all for Hillary)

Walworth County: Increase in 10 votes in Town of Whitewater Wards 1-2 due to ballot jams on Election Day.

Washburn County: Discrepancies in Town of Bashaw were due to an error in the previous certification. The total ballots for Trump/Pence should have been 385 instead of the 352 reported.

Thanks for the update. I checked too and eliminating Milwaukee County due to absentee, I get the same numbers.

It appears the biggest change occurred in Walworth County, 63 and 81 and Iowa County, 107 and 270.

Any ideas why?

Good Catch on Walworth, LaGrange, Ward 1-3. That seems whacked also.
The state mentioned Walworth,Whitewater but nothing about Lagrange.
I'll take LaGrange out and it further adjusts as such:

Trump" +75
Hillary: +47

Re: IOWA County - I note it in my post.

I just noticed Iowa County,VILLAGE OF AVOCA, Ward 1 has a huge discrepancy, so I am modifying my preliminary results, by leaving their totals out."

I notified Wisc. via email they had some whacked day2 results and they got it fixed in day 3. Whether it's because of my email or not, who knows.

I didn't email 'em about Iowa County, and I wont for Walworth, so we'll see if they fix it with tomorrow's results.

I think the overall recounted total is 764543 votes.

This is out of about 2.9 million votes, or 26% of the total.

It looks like a total vote change in the first 1/4 of the state of . . . a bit less than 100 votes?

Synopsis as of Sunday:

Milwaukee County’s wards ARE starting to count. A few are finished. Many are underway and posting incomplete (excluding absentee ballots, which will be done last) results. It is these that have generated the screams of 1000s of fewer votes for Hillary in the recount. They are incomplete and those 1000s will appear as they complete. Needless panic.

26% of the state has been recounted. Variance from election night is very small. About 70 votes change out of 730K+ recounted — 1/1000th of 1%.

The spreadsheet is updated from the state each evening. It’s not easy to process because Milwaukee, alphabetical, is in the middle of the rows and you must extract its results.

Update: Mid Sunday spreadsheet update

Total votes recounted now 1,017530. This is 35% of the state.

Dane county wards are starting to come in. Madison is a city of that county. Nothing from Madison city yet. The Dane county wards are very Hillary heavy and are showing nearly no change from Election Day. Honest Wisconsin folk.

Some wards from Milwaukee county, Hillary heavy, are now fully recounted (incl absentees). Nearly zero variance from Election Day.

We don’t care about this anymore, but I’m still playin with the numbers.

It looks like they cleaned up the whacked counts from yesterday.

Day 4 results(Near as I can figure).

Trump: +110
Hillary: +37

The above totals do not contain any Milwaukee County numbers. Milwaukee County counts do not reflect absentee ballot counts - most of the individual ward recount numbers are way off from the original counts.

Dane is a hand recount (slow walking) so results will be lagging.

Wisconsin’s spreadsheet- for the smaller towns- is broken down by county\city with all the city wards on the same line.
for the larger cities - each ward will have it’s own line.

So, there are 3636 lines with counts in the spreadsheet.
1449 lines have completed the recount, for approx. 39.8% complete.

(23 milwaukee lines with counts\recounts are complete, but I chose to leave all Milwaukee county out)

Thanks for your work keeping us updated as the count progresses.

I’m of the opinion that the Wisconsin recount is a bit more important than thought by many. If Hillary is able to find some large discrepancy there, it would give her new BFF Stein ammo to use in arguments in Michigan and PA.
