Thatcher Nods: Dems Ran Out of Other People’s Money
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/01/2016 7:57:10 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Margaret Thatcher once famously said that “the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” Is that what’s happened to the Democratic party?

Morning Joe devoted a navel-gazing segment today to the question of where Dems go from here given their loss of the presidency, their failure to take back either house of congress, and their hemorrhaging of governorships and hundreds of state-legislature seats. There was consensus that Nancy Pelosi and her septuagenarian cohort in the Dem leadership were past their sell-by dates.

But the bigger problem that was posed was the lack of a Dem agenda, and the suggestion that the Dems need to come up with “new ideas.” One Dem panelist claimed “we do have some of those” ideas, but neither he nor anyone else could describe them in any detail. And therein lies the looming disaster for the Dems.

Destroy coal.

Make nice with Cuba and Iran.

Allow everyone to walk across the borders while protecting the criminals in sanctuary cities.

Submit to the “laws” of the UN and give up our sovereignty.

Those are a few the Democratic ideas so I’m not sure what they mean when they say they have no new ideas. Those sound new to me.

People, stop this.

8 years ago Obama took office with an EVEN LARGER majority in both houses. There was talk of a permanent Democrat majority. There was talk of “GOP? What do they think? It doesn’t matter. They are irrelevant. Zero power.”

They over-reached.

With an even smaller majority, we could do the same.

Calm the hell down. Nothing is forever.

There are enormous structural changes. The Democrats won the majorities in 2008 because of their control of the establishment media. Their overreach was shown to the American people because the establishment media’s hold on the infomation flow was broken.

Most of what Republicans want is wanted by the vast majority of Americans. It is not an overreach. As Rush has noted many times, it is the Republican brand that has been demonized by the Democrats and their establishment media, not conservative ideas.

The establishment media will attempt to lable Trump’s efforts as “overreach”, but it has lost a lot of the ability to control the information flow.

Re: She couldn't promise enough freebies to win, knowing that as POTUS she’d actually have to write the checks

Do you actually believe that if she had made more promises for freebies she would have won? She was was already offering plenty! And the goal was to win votes. Not deliver on the promises. Democrats have promised the same things for decades. They deliver very few. But then with each election cycle promise to do it this time. And people buy it. They just blame the Republicans or Bush for not following through. Obama made plenty promises. For example: health care. You could keep your doctors and your premiums would decrease and everyone would be covered. None of that has happened. But it doesn't matter. If he could run for a 3rd term, he would probably win again.

I guess that crazy eyes don’t mellow with age, not when there is so much crazy behind them.

Thanks, douchebags, for re-electing her to be your (very ugly) face for another 2 years. That ensures that you still don’t get how big of a failure your whole platform is, and thus it prevents you from actually learning and improving...because I want you to be out of power for DECADES, I want you to be the object of scorn, derision and hate - as you’ve done to those of us who actually value our nation and the core moral and political values that made this country both good and great.

I’ll put up with her ugly, crazy mug for a while longer - I have dark sunglasses, and I have a Deplorable hat on the way.

“Do you actually believe that if she had made more promises for freebies she would have won? She was was already offering plenty!”

Yes, I do.

She’s pragmatic enough to know that at some point she has to produce the promised goods, at least just enough to make people think the rest is coming. She couldn’t promise enough to make that work, especially while Bernie _was_ promising everything and honestly believed he could “redistribute” it all into existence.

Health care is indeed a great example. The Obama promised big, got Obamacare through, and now it’s starting to collapse from sheer “told ya so” lack of other people’s money.

There comes a “tipping point” where everything is still whistling along nicely (never mind the rubble here & there), but continuing forward just accelerates disaster. Hillary has a decent sense of where that is, knowing she can’t take those Leftist promises any farther.

Bernie was willing to go all-in on socialism. Having little money of his own, and that never properly earned, he has little to lose by doing so. Being a true believer, he was willing to be a martyr leading the cause.
Hillary just wanted the job title & perks. She’d make whatever vapid promises needed to get it; those she’d actually have to go to the mat for, or especially fall on her sword for, he11 no.

They’re hanging their hat on “Hillary got more votes” and “Democrat Senate candidates got more votes”. Delusion or transparent lies, it’s all one and the same with them.

Donny Deutsch argued that it wasn’t so much the lack of ideas but the lack of a dynamic person who can galvanize the voters.

Ah the classic excuse. It's not socialism, it's just that it hasn't been implemented correctly yet. You'll see!

The GOPe in congress are like a school of fish, with Trump igniting the public they will turn and follow him in passing the agenda items he has laid out. Look how Newt was able to bring them to heel in the 90s-Kasich, Scarborough, they were practically Reaganesque.

They are so self-absorbed with identity politics that they can’t help themselves.

True enough.
