Here is a link to help out those affected by the horrible wildfires in the Smoky Mountains. There have been over 14,000 people evacuated,at least seven dead, several missing and hundreds of homes and businesses have been totally destroyed. The impact on that area will be tremendous for a long time.

https://www.jihadwatch.org/2016/11/israel-13-muslims-arrested-for-arson-jihad-as-fires-still-rage

In 2012, ABC News reported that an Al-Qaeda magazine was “offering detailed advice on how to start huge forest fires in America with timed explosives and how to build remote-controlled bombs.”

Authorities have said very little about the Sevier County fire’s cause thus far. They have simply said that its origins are human-caused. That comment was attributed to National Park Service spokeswoman Dana Soehn, who did not provide further details, said KTLA, adding that the cause is under investigation.

In this age, who knows. If that was a tinder box it sure would be a tempting target to jihadists. Heavily Christian area, Nashville music.

This is who Dolly Parton is:

Billboard: Dollywood attracts lots of church groups, but it has also become a draw for the LGBT community. What does that say about you?

Dolly: It’s a place for entertainment, a place for all families, period. It’s for all that. But as far as the Christians, if people want to pass judgment, they’re already sinning. The sin of judging is just as bad as any other sin they might say somebody else is committing. I try to love everybody.

Billboard: You have a large gay following. To what do you attribute that?

Dolly: They know that I completely love and accept them, as I do all people. I’ve struggled enough in my life to be appreciated and understood. I’ve had to go against all kinds of people through the years just to be myself. I think everybody should be allowed to be who they are, and to love who they love. I don’t think we should be judgmental. Lord, I’ve got enough problems of my own to pass judgment on somebody else.

This article about the fires lists some shelters that are taking in people, and in some cases animals. There must be someone on this list that doesn’t condemn Christians to hell for believing God’s Holy Word.

It is a federal problem. Poor forestry management resulting from pseudo morality has caused Arizona wildfires in the last 10 years to be brutal.

Sure looks like that whole area was tinder. Forests that aren’t logged and aren’t purposely burned will eventually naturally burn. Is there any proactive way to deal with this kind of problem in other areas around the country? I’d think the Trump administration would be friendlier to logging.

Gatlinburg borders the national park. NPS has been doing controlled burns now for about a decade or so IIRC. I'm all for logging but it has to be done right and land reclaimed immediately or you'll create a real disaster especially in steep terrain areas via flooding. Surprisingly it doesn't take that much. A 500 ft wide strip of logging a quarter mile long on steep terrain if not immediately reclaimed can bring disaster. I witnessed such a disaster myself due to TVA not reclaiming my land properly after installing a 180,000 volt power line.

I'm not an earth worshiper this is just common sense and I saw TVA do this to my own land for a transmission line. Now I have two TVA transmission towers {Powerlines towers} on my place and they attract lightning strikes. If it's raining no harm done. If it doesn't rain and it strikes my place could go up under the right conditions.

As for Gatlinburg? It lies at the base of the mountains at the bottom of a long steep river gorge. Mountains surround it except for the narrow gorge itself which the main highway US 441 follows. Believe it or not The Smoky Mountains are considered a rain forest.

This year has been a very atypical dry spell. The entire East Tennessee region since early spring has gone from normal rainfall to Level 3 and 4 drought meaning Severe and Extreme. The entire eastern portion of the state from about Crossville to Bristol has been in drought and for the past two months seeing major forest fires. Some were on private held land some were state forestry service owned. To make matters worse the leaves died on the trees and due to lack of typical fall winds partially fell off the trees. Leaves on the ground could be ignited by a spark. The leaves left on the trees very dry also would ignite the trees. That is what compounded these fires. It was not the typical ground fires that leave trees intact and burn leaves and logs on the ground. This took it all.

Our last drought anywhere near this magnitude was in 1986 but this one surpassed it. With many areas receiving up to 6" of rain in 48 hours most of the fire danger has passed and more rain is on the way this weekend.

Another danger and I feel a huge factor in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area fires was the fact the region was already overwhelmed from the constant smell of forest fires from points west and south west. That would account for persons being slow to evacuate. If a forest fire was a quarter mile away or 100 miles away the smell was the same and as strong. I live on the side of a steep ridge myself and several times I had to jump in the truck and take a drive down the ridge to look up and down the valley and see if a fire was near me or not.

The entire Tennessee Valley from the Smokey's to the Cumberland mountains was at very high risk. Some fires were in areas that had been timbered. Logging is a great tool to reduce risk but it doesn't eliminate it. Also in conditions like this past summer it can be banned due to the risk of the logging itself starting a fire.

Gatlinburg is still at risk. The rains the past 24 hours for Gatlinburg was a total of 2". Points just 20 miles west received much more rain. The front basically stalled just a few miles east of Sevier County. My area near Norris Dam thankfully received 6" plus inches of rain in 48 hours but I'm north of Knoxville.

I'm about 4 miles east of I-75 north between the 117 and 121 exits. Two miles east of Norris Freeway near where the Anderson, Knox, and Union County lines all meet. My youngest daughter lives near you in Lafollette. She lives across the highway from Woodsons IGA.

This is Westgate Resort, where my sis, her husband with MD and niece use to work. It will take over a year to rebuild, and sis and husband are close to 60. Not going to be easy for either to find jobs. He is on DSS because of the late stage MD. Sis and niece will have to do UE. Fire came close to their house, if not for personal belongings, it would have been a blessing if it had burned, it's a 2 story on the side of the mountain and can't build a wheelchair ramp on it and BIL will need one soon, if he falls he can't get up by himself. Not heard anything about the second niece situation, first one is on oxygen part time. Plus our Alcoholic 50+ yr old bro lives in a no bathroom RV in the back yard.

No word on FEMA yet, our worthless RINO gov finally called the NG in. There has also been a Twister hit with lots of damage in another city in TN.

Death toll is now 7, several still missing. WHY does the city/county not keep a record of disabled or bedridden people? 1 double amputee had to drive his motorized scooter down the smoke/fire filled road to the Evac center he was not notified to evacuate, thankfully a good Samaritan stopped and picked him up before his battery or he died. 3 were in Vandy Burn unit in Nashville as of yesterday.

They still don’t know if it was arson set, and/or if it was a muzzy like in Israel. Our gov loves those refugees and state legislature is fighting to keep him from importing more. But his AG is his pet ‘dog’.

I know there are many stories like the one you shared. We are praying for you in Arizona. Our community was hit by the Rodeo Chediski Fire in 2002. I am sure your community will rebuild and hopefully in the meantime there will be lot’s of donations that will help people survive.

FEMA didn’t do much to help and it was the community/friends & family that helped. My parents home burned in the fire but they didn’t “qualify” for any assistance. Thankfully they had insurance.

Origin of the fire. Arson Likely intentional or otherwise. Even a cigarette butt could have done it. I don’t think anyone could have predicted what would follow. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/local/tennessee/2016/12/01/how-historic-gatlinburg-fires-happened-humble-start/94687860/

I think there is an important question to ask which I have not seen. Why didn’t the National Park get enough resources and manpower in there to quell the Chimney Tops Fire? It had been burning since 11/23. Did not spread to Gatlinburg until 11/29. If George W can be blamed for Katrina..Obama can be blamed for Gatlinburg.

Yes there will be many more. And DUMBO is not doing a thing. Our gov is a RINO more interested in importing more muzzies.

Thankfully our legislature is fighting him and his lap dog AG.

Politics had nothing to do with this. Even if every resource in the park and manpower had all been dispatched to the initial fire it likely would not have stopped it and likely cost more lives doing so. The area was accessible only by a foot trail and there would have not been water resources. The skies in the entire region at that time was smokey and limited visibility to allow choppers in if any capable of hauling and dumping water had been near by. Many other resources the state had were tied in in the other many fires going on at the time including one in a neighboring county.

IF the wind had not increased there was a chance it could have been put out or at least contained within a couple of days. When the wind started all bets were off.

Winds in the valley can be 15 MPH while winds on the mountain can easily exceed 50 MPH. Some professional estimations put the wind the night of the fire at being 80 MPH plus on the mountain. The terrain is very, very, steep in places would require tieing off just to stand and added to this is heavy foliage even in the winter. Leaves were both on the ground and in the trees thus igniting the trees as well.

The Mount LcConte Lodge mentioned in the article is only accessible by long foot trails which also serves as an Alpaca route for supplies or by Helo and only if weather and winds permit. It is the highest elevation in the park and the fire was below it.

The park as I posted before is considered a rain forest and this was very atypical conditions. In some cases the NPS had a policy of allowing fires to burn themselves out so as to lower future fire risk by burning up the fuel on the ground. That policy was more common in the southern porting called the Cades Cove Abrahms Creek area. They could not air drop fire crews due to trees. In the early 1900's the entire park was almost barren. It had been timbered. Many trails hikers use today are old narrow gauge railroad beds. The standing trees are now over 100 years old. To be fair to the NPS Rangers there they do a great job. If a hiker is injured they usually have to hike into areas or on horse back perhaps 12 hours and assist and then if needed carry them out. The fire was just a fluke perfect storm situation.

It's a park with many hidden dangers. When I was about 12 or 13 I was back country hiking with my dad on a trout fishing trip from Cades Cove into an area in North Carolina called Eagle Creek. The day before we left a kid about 8 years old got lost up near Spence Field on top of the mountain. Despite the largest search and rescue effort in the history of the park including National Guards no trace was ever found of him. He could have been laying 5 feet away and not been seen.
