Judge denies request for hand recount of WI presidential election results
Wisconsin State Urinal ^ | 11-30-2016 | Mark Sommerhauser

A Dane County judge on Tuesday denied a request by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to require all votes in Wisconsin’s presidential election to be recounted by hand, as officials in each of the state’s 72 counties ready for the recount to begin Thursday.

The recount became official Tuesday afternoon, when the state Elections Commission announced it received a $3.5 million payment for the recount from Stein’s campaign, which requested it. State law says candidates may request a recount of their election if they pay for it.

Stein’s campaign has raised more than $6 million in recent days for recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania — three states that tipped the Electoral College to Trump, and where polls did not predict a Trump victory.

Yet even Stein’s allies expressed fresh doubts about the value of the recounts. Stein’s running mate, Ajamu Baraka, told CNN Tuesday: “I’m not in favor of the recount.”

Trump leads Clinton in Wisconsin’s official tally by more than 22,000 votes, or less than a percentage point. State Elections Commission chairman Mark Thomsen, a Democrat, said Monday he expects the recount will re-affirm Trump won.

Clinton’s legal team largely stayed on the sidelines in the recount until Tuesday, when her campaign joined Stein’s court request for a hand recount.

Clinton’s attorney, Josh Kaul, wrote in a memo to the court that a hand recount is “preferable to a machine recount because human beings can assess voter intent in a way that machines cannot.”

Fifty-six counties have told the commission or the Wisconsin State Journal that they plan to do full or partial hand recounts. Other counties plan to use scanning machines to re-tabulate the votes.

[SNIP]State law sets a high bar for a judge to order a statewide hand recount. The law says the candidate seeking one must give “clear and convincing evidence” that using machines to conduct a recount will produce incorrect results and that there’s a “substantial probability” that recounting the ballots by hand or another method will produce a more correct result — and change the outcome of the election.[SNIP]

So, it appears that the re-count can still be held, it's just not going to be done, 'by hand.'

I'll keep looking for more info.

Dane County Circuit Judge Valerie Bailey-Rihn ruled Tuesday that the Stein and Clinton campaigns failed to meet that standard.

What benefit would the losers have in recounting by hand, unless it’s “redetermining” of votes that they have in mind?

Wow, if a Dane County Circuit Judge refused to consider a hand count, it looks like Stein’s effort is for naught. I hope that’s the case.

Even better yet, I don’t see the numbers in Wi changing that significantly to cast the election into doubt. I consider it a great thing that the liberals just burned #.5 million dollars in this effort.

They are apparently trying to delay the EC Vote and force congress to vote in Trump so they can call his election illegitimate. They have zero chance of changing the result and they know it.

Indeed, but what he is really saying is how they can access how the voter wanted to vote, meaning they voted for Clinton in their mind.

Clinton just GIVE IT UP, you LOST TWICE now.

Oh, good grief. We’re not going back to divining ‘voter intent’ again are we?

That scam didn’t work for Gore and it’s certainly not going to work now.

All this article says is that the judge is not going to require a statewide hand recount. It does not say she is going to prohibit.

The judge did her job, although I suspect it cost her a number of really cool “Holiday Party” invites ;-)

Those who are imagining all kinds of nefarious things happening should insted spend 30 minutes listening to Judge Jim Troupis who basically wrote the book on WI Recounts for the Prosser recount in 2011: (skip to 3:20)

http://wiba.iheart.com/onair/vicki-mckenna-29300/everything-you-need-to-know-about-15341178/

They will no doubt find a few votes that the machine could not properly ready but statistically these will not change the outcome. There is no chance for hacking and great precautions to ensure accuracy are being taken.

As Troupis points out, the County Clerks of WI take their jobs seriously and since he is the one who has worked intimately with them I am not going to question his opinion.

I can see a revival of the old Johnny Carson "Karmac the Magnificent" skits... "My Spirit Guide has informed me that this little spot on the ballot is not fly poop but what this voter REALLY INTENDED TO MARK". This year will make Florida 2000 look like an election Cake Walk!

That means "we get to cheat and steal the election."

The only thing Hillary is going to achieve by backing Jill Stein’s shameless recount stunt is to make herself a TWO-TIME loser and drag America’s reputation as a democracy through the mud. How very Clinton of her!
