Wisconsin Hunter Kills Trophy Eight-Point ... Doe?

In this Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 photo, provided by Mel Buckmaster, Wayne Douville poses with an eight-point doe he shot in Abrams in northeastern Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin hunter has killed an eight-point ... doe?

WLUK-TV reports that Wayne Douville was hunting near Abrams in northeastern Wisconsin on Monday when he shot and killed a 222-pound deer that had eight points on its antlers.

Upon closer inspection, the 68-year-old Douville and his aptly-named friend, Mel Buckmaster, discovered the deer had female genitalia.

Jeff Pritzl, district wildlife supervisor for the state Department of Natural Resources, says the doe likely had a higher testosterone level, which might occur in one in 100,000 deer. He says the deer was tagged a buck because the antlers were at least three inches long.

Douville says he plans to have the entire deer mounted, though he doubts his wife will let him put it up on the living room wall.

Does with antlers a uncommon but their horns usually stay in velvet.

I shot a nice 200 lb. doe years ago and roller her over to and saw that she had a package. The deer had a couple antlers maybe an inch or two, but it wasn’t a button buck. Field dressed it and everyone commented on what a nice doe it was.

Game and Parks thought maybe he snared his “jewels” on a barb wire fence but I told him he was fully intact.

It's interesting that in WI tags are antlered or antlerless, mainly to cover males with no or under 3" antlers by doe tags. However the "antlered" tags are printed Buck Tag.

What, you never heard of transsexual deer before? It obviously started out as a buck but hasn’t had the antler portion of the operation yet.

I’m not so impressed with the deer as I am with the hunter. Judging by the background, he’s a true farmer........I envy him.
