It's expensive as hell to protect presidential candidates like Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump... which explains why the Secret Service drops the loser FAST... but maybe not as fast as you think.
The federal government shells out about $40k PER DAY to protect Hillary -- code name "Evergreen" -- and Donald -- code name "Mogul." The cost of protecting candidates in 2012 reportedly approached $113 million.
There's no hard-and-fast rule on when the Secret Service stops protecting the loser. It's done on a case-by-case ... but typically, agents say sayonara to the loser about a week after the election. The asterisk in this case is Hillary -- as a former First Lady she gets lifetime protection, anyway.

TMZ doesn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. Her SS protection is because she was a FLOTUS. It may have been augmented during this campaign, but it won’t disappear.
Unfortunately, as it is and the way the protection was changed, she won’t lose her SS detail ever unless Donald does something about it. That law was changed for 10 years after leaving office after her husband’s tenure, but has been modified by Obama to give his ass SS protection for life. I’m thinking this was because of an EO he issued that covered W too. Who was supposed to fall under the 10 year rule.
Does she continue to get SS protection in prison?

Not true in her case. She is the wife of an ex-pres so that her secret service protection is a lifetime thing, unfortunately for us, the taxpayers.
I remember seeing Lady Bird Johnson in the H.E.B. in Southwest Austin with her secret service protection surrounding her years after LBJ died.
