Donald Trump cancels meeting with New York Times after the paper REFUSES to speak with him off the record ... a day after excoriating private meeting with media execs

Donald Trump was set to meet reporters from The New York Times on Tuesday afternoon for a brief off-the-record session

That was to be followed by an on-the-record discussion with reporters and columnists from the Times

Trump announced on Twitter Tuesday morning however that he cancelled because 'terms and conditions of the meeting were changed'

He followed that up with a tweet 15 minutes later saying that the times covers him 'inaccurately' and with 'a nasty tone'

A Times spokesperson said that the terms were not changed, but that they refused Trump camp's request to have entire meeting off the record

It was also revealed that no one from Trump's camp or the president-elect himself notified the Times that the meeting was no longer happening

The Times on Tuesday published a front-page story detailing some of the companies with foreign governments ties that do business with Trump

Trump has cancelled a sit-down with reporters from The New York Times and the newspaper's publisher Arthur Sulzberger after the newspaper refused to speak with the president-elect off the record.

'I cancelled today's meeting with the failing @nytimes when the terms and conditions of the meeting were changed at the last moment. Not nice,' Trump wrote on Twitter at 6.15am Tuesday morning.

Times however was quick to respond to Trump's claims, revealing that they did not change any terms of the meeting but did refuse to speak with him off the record.

The original terms stated that Trump would speak off the record at the start of the meeting, and that would be followed by a lengthy on-the-record discussion with reporters and columnists.

I got to say I love how he is handling the “media”. Why does he have to give them access. He should schedule a meeting every other day with the NY times and cancel it on Twitter every time...or just don’t show up.

It’s not like they are going to hate him any more for doing it. He should give access and interviews ONLY to people that are “fair”.

companies with foreign governments ties that do business with Trump

Now how about all the companies with foreign government ties that do business with Bezos or Carlos Slim or all of the other Silicon Valley execs who excoriate Trump. Nope! No conflict there.

We all know about it. Now let's have it out and if Trump makes policies that favor his businesses at the expense of other American's businesses or the American People, then publish the facts - true facts - in support and we will hold him to account.

My guess is that the Times is soon to find out what ‘hardball’ is all about . . .

The problem is that if you are from New York are from before teh internet revolution and count yourself educated, the Times is your gospel. I know folks who when searching for information don't search with google. They search the NY times.

It's a mental illness.

Sounds like Donald is trying to be fair. He wants to say something to the news organs that itself is not intended to be “news” — in the style that these organs have been crafting what they call “news.”

So what does one do with fools. Maybe Mike Pence could share some guidance from the bible about it. One can’t permit fools to drive one off balance. He might remember Ronald Reagan’s famous teflon. Do what is right before God, and what men think will matter far less.

Much of the country does, too.

The problem when trying to drain the swamp is alligators. The media has just volunteered to be the alligators.

Keep calm, Donald. We have your back.
