Anti-Trump secessionists filed formal paperwork Monday launching their petition drive aimed at separating California from the union by first putting the issue before voters on the 2018 ballot.

A petition submitted by the Yes California Independence Campaign calls for repealing language in the state constitution that describes California as an “inseparable part” of the nation and holding a vote on independence on March 13, 2019.

They’re not that smart. They should be encouraged to secede immediately before their two brain cells rub together enough to realize it in a few months.

You won't need another wall. The state will be so Mexican laden it will finally break off and sink into the sea...

Such secession actions caused the American Civil War in 1865. The issue of the right to secede from the US was settled back then. Cannot secede.

Now, since I was born in California, will it mean I’m not able to run for president when I’m 70? :-)

Their secession would be AWESOME and they can join Canada along with Washington and Oregon. As soon as their past-due check clears, they are good to go. We naturally need a method to ensure real patriot Californians can join us here. :-)

Great, Dems lose California’s electoral votes.

LOL! Typical liberals — they never consider any consequences of their wacky ideas.

Let them go... then invade them! Most of them are disarmed anyway. Terms of surrender- banish all the Hollywood celebs!

Ha, you’re killing me. But I honestly don’t think any republicans or independents would fight to the death to keep them in the union. As a matter of fact the democrats won’t fight to the death. lol. They just could get away with it.

That is going to involve a lot of paperwork;)

What about all the Federal lands - taxes - social security -Interstate highways - US military bases - Who really owns State resources - water - power facilities. The list is mind boggling.

Feel for all the private property owners and farmers who don’t want to secede.

This could get complicated.

Oh please……..

And had the Trump states counted all the absentees and military votes, Hillary would not have won the popular vote either.

Can people outside California vote in the referendum?
Yes, I’m being sarcastic. But, I suspect they would get plenty of support for secession from the rest of the US.

Why sarcastic? if illegals can vote in our elections OF COURSE we can all vote for California to GTFO.

Actually, that was ‘cannot secede without permission’ - would be different if everyone else said “Yeah, go, we don’t care” which is what it would be in this case.

LA and San Fran can kiss off and become their own country.

The Eastern part of the state is strong conservative.

We’d make a Great new State of Jefferson.

Unfortunately, the cockroaches will all scatter our way.

They can only secede if they build a wall around the state or at least around the coastal and southern part.

California has 38 million people and Canada has 30 million ,it would never work ,California would get enough seats in Parliament to control Canada

Shhhhh, don’t give them ideas. They need to secede first *then* when it is a done deal, have all the things explained to them that they didn’t realize would happen. :D

Mixed feelings about this, for sure. If they kept all their debts, got nothing more from our fed including gov/military work, were subject to U.S. Immigration laws afterward, and there was a wall...
