What should federal employees expect from a boss-in-chief whose workforce philosophy is best known for two words Youre fired?
More firings.
President-elect Donald Trump would start with the Department of Veterans Affairs, which remains a target for Republicans after a scandal that erupted in 2014 over the coverup of long wait times for patients.
If firings do increase, dont think they will stop at the VA: Two of Trumps high-profile advisers have urged him to fire feds faster across the government.
This is the second of two columns examining Trumps approach to the workforce. Last week, we examined his plan to freeze federal hiring. Today, we look at his campaigns firing proposals in light of measures that injure due process for civil servants while undermining the agency meant to protect them.
Lets begin with an acknowledgment that firing federal employees can be long and cumbersome because of civil service procedures. Lets also acknowledge the importance of procedures protecting civil servants from being fired at will, like a contestant on a Trump reality show.
The public is the main beneficiary of civil service laws that also protect employee rights.
Trump says he wants to make the VA great again by firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives. His 10-point plan to change the VA says he will use the powers of the presidency to remove and discipline the federal employees and managers who have violated the publics trust.

Just offer them a years pay to quit Jan 21. Inform them they will be out of work Dec 31 anyway. Paychecks can be colored pink.
Is this before or after a third of them quit because Trump won? That’s really important to know to get a sense of the scope of Trump’s rightsizing of the Government.
Should cut down on the porn viewing during work hours
It is probably easiest do it like private sector companies do when they want to downsize or get rid of a malcontent or troublemaker without risking an EEOC complaint or a lawsuit-say they are doing a budget overhaul/tightening and eliminate the position-it saves money, too...
No. Positions can be easily recreated. Eliminate entire departments and agencies.
Faster than a speeding bullet.
Should be no problem after he gets rid of the unions. Or as Gov. Walker did with Act 10 in Wisconsin, simply limit collective bargaining to wages only and prohibit the employer (us) from collecting union dues or requiring membership in a union (right to work). You can skim over all the provisions here, it’s pretty amazing piece of legislation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Wisconsin_Act_10
And despite occupying the capitol and pooping in it’s hallways, and numerous court challenges and recall elections, it went into effect and as soon as they had the opportunity to NOT pay union dues, the vast majority of state workers dropped the union.
This is what we need at the federal level, and Trump’s Chief of Staff and the Speaker of the House as well as a former rival, Scott Walker, are experts at how to do it.

there’s more winning over here too!
Why hell, after President Elect Trump drains the swamp, we may actually have more people working in the private sector than we do in government. GO President Elect TRUMP!
When I worked in government my observation was that 10% of the employees do 90% of the work and a different 10% cause 90% of the problems. The ones in between have no idea what to do so they are idle and/or unproductive.
About 3 million people work for the fedgov including Defense, and critical agencies.
I am told it is not so different in most government departments. Two or three out of ten do the heavy lifting. The trick is to identify these or, at least, those who have the potential to become one of these keepers.
Fire government employees so fast that real estate prices drop in Maryland and Northern Virginia.
He needs to eliminate their pensions too. No severance packages either.
By eliminating the deadweight, the productivity and morale of the remaining employees increase.
Unions within the fedgov are not as powerful as those outside of it. No strikes allowed, no forcing one to join or pay dues, no real negotiation over pay.
Walker’s achievement in Wisconsin was the reason I supported him when the primaries started. He has been one of, if not the, most productive governors anywhere, anytime.
However, his reforms in Wisconsin are not necessary in the fedgov because the unions are weak in the latter.
Actually FIRING a Federal employee (regardless of how outrageous their conduct) is nearly impossible! There is no end of appeals and delays and then shifting employee defenses claimed pursuant to the Americans With Disabilities Act, various "Whistle-Blower" provisions or Employee Discrimination due to COUNTLESS protections. There is such a labyrinth of legal protection avenues claimed that..., even diligent managers JUST GIVE UP, often at the demand of Agency attorneys or executives!
President Reagan was able to fire the Air Traffic Control employees because they blatantly violated a mandate that they NOT STRIKE! "Draining the Swamp" will take a far more Herculean effort! I wish him well BUT, recognize that many Democrat AND Republican Representatives and Senators owe their offices to support from Federal Employee Unions and their support will just not be there!
No more promotions for Tetris high scores?
That’s awesome.
