The electoral college system for choosing the President was based upon the protection of slavery and a distrust of democracy. That system has allowed the loser of the popular vote to win the Presidency in five of our 56 Presidential elections. Such a system would be illegal in any state or local election. But it is contained in the Constitution. Can a section of the Constitution itself be unconstitutional? The answer is yes. We are all aware by now that we do not vote directly for a candidate in a Presidential election. We vote for electors who will (presumably) vote for the candidate who won the popular vote in the state, when the college meets after the election. Under Article II, Sect. 2 of the Constitution (later modified by the Twelfth Amendment), the number of electors is determined by combining the number of members of the House of Representatives in each state and its two Senators.

It is like dealing with a especially slow child. Sometimes you just have to pat them on the head and send them outside to play.
This guy is full of shit.
No Next stupid question
What? The electoral college system has NOTHING to do with slavery.
It has everything to do with avoiding “mob rule” and resentment building by those who are always outvoted, even if closely.
If the UC/US had no slaves, the electoral college would still exist.
Good God.
LOL!
WINNNNNNNER!!!!!!!!
Definitely a well considered distrust of democracy.
Annnnnnd yet,the libs embrace the abortion movement which has exterminated more of the black population than the KKK could even dream of....They hate KKK racism, they looooove democrat racism
In Colorado, a few years back, the state Supreme Court declared a provision of the state constitution unconstitutional in regards to the state constitution. So there is a precedent of sorts. I fully expected that if Hussein or Mrs Bill got to place Scalia’s replacement on the Court that the 2nd Amd would be declared Unconstitutional and later other provisions would be “updated.”
What is unconstitutional is states that allow illegals to vote stealing real Americans right to have a real say in who governs them.
Perhaps it is just me and I’m misinformed, but wasn’t the electoral college written into the Constitution?
Perhaps we should just shoot idiots like this “professor”.
Just a thought.
When the founders first inked the Constitution, they were smart enough not to let just the popular vote have total control. A lot of this is because slave owners were pushing for property size, thus more say, by using their slaves as numbers for votes. And that now again happens today with the largest areas getting more electoral votes.
When we expanded west, groups with common interests banded together and created territories that later became states by their choice. And we were joined by Alaska and Hawaii
We have been told their are 50 states in the union. That is correct, but there are 51 entries to our elections in the electoral college. Washington D.C. has electoral votes, even while they are not represented in congress. So that means we are actually receiving electoral votes from 51 areas. Since the possibility of the large area having more to say about the determination of our senior officials is in question, Why not just give each state and the D.C. one vote. Twenty-six wins. And the determination can be decided by the popular vote of the people like it isn’t now. And that government will truly be the voice of the people. Simple, less math. And more coverage of the single vote without someone else changing it.

Good news!
Mr. Trump will put a new justice on the USSC.
The Electoral College was a brilliant thing; still is.
WE are not a “democracy”. We are a “republic”.
IF you get the large cities around the edges of the
country deciding elections; the “flyover country” will
never figure into it again. Add in Jihadist “migrants” and
illegal Mexicans who can swell the population with no
ID’s required (like Hillary & Hussein want to do), it will
be a Democrat monopoly for a lifetime with no help for it.
“A Republic, if you can keep it.” B. Franklin
I am so sorry that so many people have absolutely no sense of the history and reasons for the way our country was formed.
NO! We do not “shoot people”! IF they come crawling
around our place in the Gulch wearing those eyehole masks
& camouflage gear shooting at us; well that would be
aggravating enough to us to pull out the old rifle and
blow matching eyeholes in their butts.
*Look up Jihad training camps in the U.S. There were
several in 2012.
