I bet they are frantically trying to destroy information that is stored in computer systems that are expressly designed — with very expensive multiply-redundant back-up systems of immense capacity — to make it impossible to destroy the information they contain, either by accident or with willful intent.

I wonder if the IT professionals that work in the various departments — there must be thousands of them in all — are helping them, or are refusing to do so.

Some of those IT professionals are direct government employees, and if their tenure is long, may have considerable vacation time stored up. So much that they could basically go on vacation from now until inauguration day with very little trouble, especially when you consider that we're going into the holiday season.
