Last week, a group of 21 young people, aged 9 to 20 years, won the right to sue the US government for its inaction in mitigating climate change, when an Oregon federal judge ruled that the plaintiffs' lawsuit was valid and could proceed in court.
The chief legal counsel for the plantiffs, Julia Olson, had this to say about the significance of the ruling, urging outgoing President Obama to come to an agreement with a binding court order before Trump's inauguration early next year:
We have a President-elect who is an obvious climate denier and both political branches controlled by a party rampant with climate denialism. It makes the job of the court that much more important in our constitutional democracy.

Interesting in that children cannot sign a contract.
It’s why all those TV ads say “must be 18 to order”.
That's right!
Trump: Look, Brent, I think it's pretty obvious. Rain doesn't exist. Snow, snow is great, really great, but there's no such thing. Wind, too, I know... I know a lot of people say there is wind. But there isn't."
Yes!!!! Keep repeating this over and over. What is the perfect Earth temperature and why?
Just because a court says it’s so, doesn’t make it so...............
This is just a load of Oregon nonsense.
I would love to represent the new administration in court on this matter.
“So, Mr Owl,”
“Umm, it’s Jones.”
“Oh, I thought you were a spotted owl, my bad. Mr. Jones. So, can you tell the court what today’s weather here in Portland should be if the U.S. government had taken action on climate change as you claim they have not done in your documents?”
“Umm, I don’t, umm, cooler?”
“No thanks, I don’t drink during court, just a lot afterwards.”
“No I meant it should be cooler.”
“Ohh, I see. Like one degree cooler?”
“Maybe two?”
“Ohh, so 37 degrees which is five below normal for today’s date is not cold enough for you?”
“Well no, I mean, it was a hundred last summer.”
“Ohh, and was it never a hundred before the United States existed?”
“I don’t think so. But I don’t know.”
“That’s right. You don’t know. Is there somebody who does know? Do you have that person available for us here in the courtroom?”
“Well no, climate scientists are busy people, they can’t just drop their computer stuff and hang around a courtroom all day.”
“Why not, I thought the science was settled according to them, so what do they need to do now except gloat?”
“Do more research.”
“On what?”
“On terrible things that we are doing to our climate.”
“Like what?”
“Umm, those windstorms.”
“Were there never any windstorms before the United States?”
“No. I’m fed up with your questions. The weather was wonderful until the first automobiles and factories, then it got really really awful.”
“Oh, how many automobiles were there in 1900?”
“Err, not many.”
“So how do you explain that Galveston, Texas was flattened by a hurricane in 1900?”
“Just random chance?”
“Just random chance. I rest my case.”
No damages for you, a-hole.
Yet taxpayers can’t use for misuse of their money?
From the excerpt of the article: “It makes the job of the court that much more important in our constitutional democracy.”
Curious as to whatever became of our “Constitutional Republic”?
That reminds me...one of our local radio stations is advertising a trip to the Netherlands. Part of the site-seeing is those wide mounds of dirt to keep the ocean from flooding the country.
They are too late. Under obola, wacko groups sue the government and “forces” the government to settle, which then requires the government to implement some wacko policy. This was done in collusion to more quickly implement nutjob policies rather than get them through Congress or even try to issue regulations.
what we need is American born children suing for the right to sue for the damages associated with the capitulation of illegal immigration by the obama administration...
*spit*
This is how it works sometimes, you get some crazy judge to make up law, the government WANTS to do something they aren’t allowed to do, but with the judge’s order, they enter a “settlement”, and do by fiat what they can’t do by legislation.
And the legislature can’t fix it because it is a “settled court case”
So... Who is acting “In Loco Parentis” for these children to even be able to initiate this suit?
If the kids can hire high priced lawyers and pay them for the years and years this suit will be dragged out, then go for it.
Clinton judge.
This is Communist Redistribution:
A janitor becomes a doctor; a doctor becomes a janitor.
A child becomes an adult; an adult becomes a child.
IRONY!!!
Defying their own constitutional oaths by deferring to knuckleheaded judges is one of the worst things elected politicians can do.
