Donald Trump might only be a part-time resident of the White House.
The New York Times reported the president-elect is already talking with his advisers about how many nights a week he will actually stay in the official presidential mansion. According to the newspaper he has told them he would like to do what he always has spend time in New York.
Trump, according to the newspaper, was shocked when he won the election and is trying to come to terms that his life is about to change. The Times noted that during the campaign he often flew hours late at night just to sleep in his own bed in Trump Towers in New York City.

“The job is in DC and while we know he can afford to fly as he wishes, you gotta be in town to do the job. “
Both Lyndon Johnson and George W. Bush spent significant time away from Washington at their Texas ranches. Reagan made frequent visits to his California ranch. Richard Nixon spent extended time away from Washington at his California and Florida homes as well as at Camp David. We know Barack Obama was a frequent traveler domestically and internationally plus took 4 or 5 extended vacations each year in Hawaii or Martha’s Vineyard. FDR was often in Warm Springs, Georgia. Harry Truman liked to go to Key West to get away from Washington.
Last year I visited the LBJ Ranch in Texas. It was amazing to see the property and hear how LBJ ran the executive branch from Texas, for weeks on end, during a time when communications were much more primitive than today. If Trump is successful in removing government functions and returning them to the state, why would the president need to be in Washington?
I call BS to this made up story. Trys to make out like Trump thinks he’s too good to stay there.
I agree with you
You have a point. I guess we’ll see how it plays out.

There are ways to minimize threats. Think about Trumps Mexico City visit.☺
As a pilot I promise you he will spend very little time in nyc. The temporary flight restrictions around the president are massive. Him being in nyc will just about shut down aviation there. He will be sensitive to that.
I am surprised nobody mentions Mar a Lago, his Florida home.
Trump could curtail the guests staying there for a mfronth and him running things there and golfing from Trump International.
I am sure he has all the teckie communications installed.
How much does Obama live there?
Correct. Big Hillary supporter.
My guess is that the Trumps will use a Presidential suite in the Trump International Hotel a few blocks from the WH from time to time. He will also make a few tweaks to the White House.
I’m not worried about the extra money.
The optics might be a challenge, as some would spin it as proof that he never was interested in actually holding the job, Pence, Priebus, and Ryan were really running the presidency, etc.
You may be right about the WH not being the safest, but I’m not sure any place is. Midtown Manhattan does seem especially problematic, however.
Yep—even if he slips it sometimes to three-day weekends, like the Obamas did.
I imagine he wants to be near his kids, who probably want to stay in NY both for their business and for their kids’ schooling. I’m sure he knows better than to trust any form of electronic communications between them.
Also, I am thinking, he could cast it as a way of staying out of the bubble, if you will. Keeping it real outside of the government-business company town as much as he can.
It’s just such a security nightmare to have him going out and about in NYC, however.
I don’t believe this. Trump will live in the WH.
He can move his bed to the WH.
Dunno.
I do know hes spent a hell of a lot of time on Golf Course 1.
He’ll be at the southern WH in Palm Beach fairly often as well.
Why do you accept what the Times says as true? Trump has already stated he will reside in the White House.
I’m not really concerned about it. I’m just having a long range electronic conversation.

Good points..... I don’t mind the $$$ either, especially after the previous spendthrift.
I guess we’ll just have to be like everyone else and hide and watch! ;-D
I trust his judgement! I think he will continue to surprise.
