The Democrats Screwed Up
NYTimes ^ | NOV. 11, 2016 | Frank Bruni

Posted on 11/12/2016 9:08:52 PM PST by aquila48

We geniuses in the news media spent only the last month telling you how Donald Trump was losing this election. We spent the last year telling you how the Republican Party was unraveling.

And here we are, with the Democrats in tatters. You might want to think twice about our Oscar and Super Bowl predictions.

Despite all the discussion of demographic forces that doomed the G.O.P., it will soon control the presidency as well as both chambers of Congress and two of every three governor’s offices. And that’s not just a function of James Comey, Julian Assange and misogyny. Democrats who believe so are dangerously mistaken.

Other factors conspired in the party’s debacle. One in particular haunts me. From the presidential race on down, Democrats adopted a strategy of inclusiveness that excluded a hefty share of Americans and consigned many to a “basket of deplorables” who aren’t all deplorable. Some are hurt. Some are confused.

Liberals miss this by being illiberal. They shame not just the racists and sexists who deserve it but all who disagree. A 64-year-old Southern woman not onboard with marriage equality finds herself characterized as a hateful boob. Never mind that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton weren’t themselves onboard just five short years ago.

Political correctness has morphed into a moral purity that may feel exhilarating but isn’t remotely tactical. It’s a handmaiden to smugness and sanctimony, undermining its own goals.

I worry about my and my colleagues’ culpability along these lines. I plan to use greater care in how I talk to and about Americans more culturally conservative than I am. That’s not a surrender of principle or passion. It’s a grown-up acknowledgment that we’re a messy, imperfect species.

The voters that won the election are a very diverse group.

There are Methodists, Baptists, Prespyterians, Catholics, not to mention Seventh Day Advintists, Nazarenes and Mormons. And incidentally, there are Irish Americans, Italian Americans, German Americans French Americans British Americans , Scotch Americans Japanese Americans, Philippno Americans and A lot of thinking African Americans and Jews.

There was however no gender diversity. Only men and women

The voters for the Republican candidate are diversly diverse

I OBJECT once again about the language corruption perpetuated by equating ‘Liberal’ with LEFTIST! Just like the election maps that tag Democrats as blue and Republicans as red, it is the MSM, innocently or not, working on language change.

The thesaurus has ‘liberal’ as ‘tolerant’, ‘easygoing’ and ‘openminded’ as just a few matches. The current Democrat, Progressive LEFT is anything BUT Liberal and to use the term to describe them is intolerable for me!

“Liberals miss this by being illiberal. They shame not just the racists and sexists who deserve it..”

...who deserves it...

And that is the problem with liberals, they are selective in who should be shamed.

In a free nation, a person should be allowed to be “sexist” “racist” “homophobic” and on down on the list. At the same time society should have the right to “shame” those that do not fit in. Eventually a balance will be reached.

The problem is the left protects special groups from being shamed. It the liberal world only white, males (and sometimes white females.) are to be shamed, if you are in a protected you can do no wrong.

This is how they “buy” votes.

Become a Democrat and you can do or say anything.

(An exception is when one of the protected class leaves the plantation, they must be punished severely to keep others from also leaving)

As to his last sentence.... he’s right. There’s a ton of ugliness. Look at all the protests riots going on as we speak.

“Libs need to meet and listen to people who disagree with them.”

You mean meet with us deplorable, racist, idiots? What on earth can they learn from us losers in life?

No, they can’t ‘listen’ to people they consider sub-human. The best they can do is try to fake it and even that is difficult, as evidenced by his last sentence, and also an earlier guilt-by-association attack.

I had an argument with my doctor about Statins. He wanted it to be like a discussion or debate, but I knew there was absolutely nothing that I could say that would change his mind. After a couple of minutes I told him to either treat my other issues or I’ll find someone else.

The Dems are like that doctor, they have nothing to learn from us, but they need at least some of our votes, so they’ll act interested in what we have to say. But be a fly in the wall at one of their socials and listen to what they say about us (and sadly that probably applies to most Republicans too).

In 2006 Pelosi cut the Dems loose on gun control. Basically she told the Dem candidates in conservative districts that they can say whatever they needed to say on the issue to win. She won the House that year, in large part because of that strategy (we got it back in 2010 because those same now-Congressmen were later forced to vote on Obamacare). Expect more of that - empty promises, lots of words, but only watch their actions.

“The left never, ever gives up. I hope our side doesn’t get complacent...”

Not as long as Trump is running the show. After that...who knows.

The NY Times, like almost every other mainstream media outlet during this election, went rogue against the American people wth a premeditated assault of deceit, propaganda, and left-wing collusion. What they lost in their dark pursuit of falsehood and treachery will never be returned to them by those of us who held firm in the light of truth. From that light we look down upon you in disgust, now and forever, not for having lost, nor for having a different opinion, but for sacrificing your journalistic integrity, for cowardly deserting the truth and leaving it to die a miserable death in this fateful and historic battle. The truth, however, did not die. We carried it forth into the light, and shall never again entrust it to your cowardly and traitorous hands.

Note what he doesn’t say here - which is that he’s willing to reconsider what he THINKS of us deplorables...because he’s not capable of that.

“Recovering the older sense of “liberal” is going to be a very important thing.”

IMHO, the essential disconnect of liberals and conservatives alike is Nationalism.

Americans want politicians and institutions that will put Americans and America first. That will put our interests above all others, every time.

While both parties are essentially anti-American, only the Democrats are overtly so. That’s why it was derisively laughable when they tried to play the Russia card against Trump, and also why the backlash against the left, media, academia et al is so broadly acceptable now.

Oh, I’m not watching them.

I think it is hilarious that most of these riots are taking place in highly liberal cities that voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton. The people who voted for Hillary are bearing the brunt of Soros’s Rent-a-Mob.

The irony.

If I’m the mayor of one of these cities, I employ water cannons from fire trucks on day 1 until the streets are clear and keep those fire trucks available all week, all with massive police support. I would not tolerate anarchist agitators in my city. Zero tolerance. I know water canons aren’t used these days, but I would bring them back to underscore my commitment to cleaning the streets of paid anarchist agitators.

I would not put up with this crap for a single hour let along days on end.

Soros is burning down is own liberal cities and probably making more conservative voters in those cities all the while doing it.

It doesn’t matter that they don’t have a bench. I think that way of thinking went out with Obama. The MSM and Dems will just prop up the next most convenient minority and get at least 47% of the vote no matter what.
