Trump/Congressman says GOP will use budget 'reconciliation' to repeal Obamacare in first 100 days...

Trump-backing congressman says GOP will use budget 'reconciliation' to repeal Obamacare in first 100 days – depriving Democrats of the chance to filibuster it

* Rep. Chris Collins, the first Republican to endorse President-elect Trump, says the GOP will move legislation to repeal Obamacare within Trump's first 100 days

* Party would use budget procedure that would let them jam it through on a simple majority vote, depriving Senate Democrats of the filibuster

* Medical device tax, 30-hour workweek for coverage, employer mandate, employee mandate all could go, gutting the plan

* Says there would be a 'transition' for 2017

The Republican push to repeal Obamacare is going on a fast track under a procedure that would make minority Democrats powerless to stop it, the first Republican congressman to endorse President-elect Donald Trump said Friday.

Republicans who now have unified control of Congress plan to move to repeal Obamacare during the first 100 days of the incoming Trump administration, said Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY).

They would do this under a budget procedure called 'reconciliation,' which requires a simple majority vote to approve tax and spending changes.

To get the ball rolling sign EO to direct IRS not to collect the penalty in 2016. That will sink it right away.
You know that lot of low risk/healthy people (and ironically klintoon millennials) are waiting to see what happens before they waste their money on a high deductible 0-care policy. The sign ups should be way down over the next few months.

Hotdamn !
Ain't it GREAT to have warrior again ? !

Parenthetically, in having just poked around the greatagain website I came across this possibly fun tidbit on the 'press information' page:  All media must apply for new press credentials.

Perhaps this is SOP for an administration change, or perhaps DJ's folks have it in mind to have some fun with the enemedia ! ?

Jim,

I’ve been listening to this Rep. Chris Collins person, who’s been in Congress for three years and whom I’ve never heard of before, and he strikes me as speaking for no one but himself. I just don’t seem him genuinely tapped in right now. Much of what he says doesn’t sound right to me, and it doesn’t sound like the way a master deal maker like Trump is going to go about achieving his agenda.

Simply defunding obamacare doesn’t fix anything, and actually would make a MUCH bigger mess than genuine repeal and replace. Obamacare can not be unraveled overnight. And real replacement will have to be phased in over at least a couple of years.

At best, I see defunding as a treat to achieve Dem cooperation.

As I wrote on an earlier thread:

1. obamacare is going to soon completely collapse unless SOMETHING is done and both the Pubs and Dems know this.

2. If the Dems obstruct all Pub attempts to fix it, then it fails and they get the blame for both imposing obamacare (without a single Pub vote) to start with AND the blame for its failure by obstructing its fix.

3. Trump owns ALL of the carrots and all of the sticks that will be brought to the negotiating table. The sticks are blaming the Dems for obamacare’s failure and the threat of simply defunding it, which is possible because funding bills are filibuster-proof in the Senate. The carrot is that the Dems could share some of the credit for the fix, because Trump will more focused on achieving results than sharing some of the credit. Sharing credit also demonstrates that Pubs (unlike Dems) CAN act in a bipartisan manner, something that most of the people in our country have been begging for. Results also show Pubs can break the D.C. logjam AND accomplish good things for our people.

4. Trump is a master negotiator and deal maker; he’ll look for win-win results. Trump is smart enough to know a big reason obamacare failed was because it was not bipartisan and will avoid that particular mistake. Oh, and with Trump, bipartisan won’t be a dirty word that means the Pubs bend over and take in in rear: there’s a new Sheriff in town, and that Sheriff is a master at getting a good deal.

.. constitutionally low-information president-elect Trump ..

And your foundation for that assertion is what, precisely ? ?

FRiend, I'm as ardent a champion of the 10th Amendment as anyone, and I have every faith that DJ and his team will move as far and as quickly as possible to reassert the 10th's authority.

Imho, you do yourself no favors with such a disparaging supposition a mere 72 hours after the electoral victory of a lifetime.

I’d prefer to see the filibuster added to the constitution. Any gain we make bypassing the filibuster is fleeting. Any weight we give it without a constitutional mandate is a one sided surrender.

For the ‘in your face’ move, how about an Executive Order that the IRS shall not enforce the “tax/penalty” on not being insured.

I frankly don’t care if that wouldn’t be a legal EO, in this particular case.

No need for an illegal EO. Just issue a plenary waiver.
