Because Big Ten country had been neglected in all the political strategists’ calculation. But Trump tailored his campaign and spoke their (our) language. And therefore, the monster votes showed up there.
Even now, other post election analysts are too busy tearing into the perceived buffoonish clown (Trump), they don’t realize who and what Trump represent.

At that 8:30 point in your graph, my wife said the calvary is coming to save us and it made her feel like Sabaton’s “Winged Hussars” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75zmIj_4LFQ . A little over the top, and instead of Hussars rescuing Vienna from the turks, we had Pennsylvania Amish patriots being driven to the polls rescuing American from the Hillary, but watching the hidden voters actually turn out was one of the best moments of electoral history I’ve ever experienced.
I don’t have the statistics in front of me, but Trump won Missouri by 26%+. His Coattails were long enough to wipe out EVERY down ballot State wide Democrat on the ticket!

I heard on one of the news shows that he got the highest percentage of Evangelical vote ever. I want to say it was high 70s/low 80s percentage-wise.
