Unless circumstances change yet again, the country appears headed toward a close presidential election outcome.
There is a remote but intriguing possibility that few have discussed: a 269-269 tie in the Electoral College.
Very few Americans have the slightest idea of what then would happen next. It is worth explaining, as in this strange election year, we should be prepared for just about anything.

Please remember.....Delegates do NOT have to cast their vote for the candidate with the most popular vote.

I cannot fathom the amount of constitutional scholars, lawyers, and professors who would descend upon DC if this scenario ever happened. It would be a feeding frenzy.

The new House. Each state House delegation gets one vote. The single Representative from Wyoming gets one vote. The forty odd Representatives from California have to vote among themselves, then they get one vote.
The election, once certified a tie, would go to the House of Representatives to decide the issue. And believe me, the House does not want that to happen.

Some of the analysis in the article is extremely far-fetched.
In particular, the idea that the House of Representatives could deadlock at 25-25 when attempting to choose between Trump and Clinton for President. Under the 12th Amendment, if the Electoral College is tied, Congress must “choose immediately, by ballot, the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation of each state having one vote.”
In other words, the vote of the West Virginia delegation is worth the same as the California delegation. Right now, Democrats have a majority in only 17 Congressional delegations, while Republicans have a majority in 33.
If there is a tie and Congress chooses a President, then Trump will win.
