Christopher and Heather Dempsey found they had a bond that went beyond the major medical procedure they shared.

Just under two years ago, Christopher Dempsey made the brave decision to donate half his liver to a stranger and save her life.

But little did he know their bond would go beyond a medical procedure.

Now the woman he saved, Heather Krueger, is not just a friend, she is his wife.

It's a heartwarming love story that began when Christopher, a former marine, overheard a colleague at work talking about a cousin who needed a transplant.

Christopher, 38, told the BBC: "I just thought to myself, I would want someone to help me or my family in that situation."

For some reason the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this story was a line from “The Gauntlet” with Clint Eastwood.

“...the next thing you know...somebody’s dachshund is nipping at your pancreas.”

Maybe it’s just the way my mind works.

Thank you so much for posting. In all the muck and mud of today’s news stories, this one gave me goosebumps. Faith in humanity restored, for a little while.

My first thought was - Hannibal Lecter, “A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.”
