Beer drinkers disavow Yuengling after owner shows support for Trump

The owner of America's oldest brewery has come out in support of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and the company's faithful drinkers aren't too happy about it.

Eric Trump, the nominee's son, stopped at D. G. Yuengling & Son's in Pottsville on Monday while campaigning on behalf of his father.

His message to the company? Hard-working family businesses like Yuengling, a fixture in Schuylkill County since the 1800s, would thrive under a President Trump, the Reading Eagle reported Tuesday.

Yuengling's response?

"Our guys are behind your father," 73-year-old owner Richard "Dick" Yuengling Jr. said, according to the newspaper. "We need him in there."

Some fans of the beer were quick to retaliate Wednesday, declaring they plan to stop drinking Yuengling altogether. That includes Communications Director for Philadelphia's City Council, Jane Roh.

I’ll be making up for at least one that might stop. I was looking for a new beer, and now I’ve found it.

“that long bearded bald M’effer they put in the commercial and the other one that just smacked of smarmy lying crap.”

Those have been my exact thoughts for years.

Actually, every time see a guy with a long beard I would love to just punch him on the nose, the conceited, liberal bastard! Especially if he wears a beret, dangles his glasses on a string or chain and has a balding head with a gray pigtail.

Me too. It’s a very good beer, the oldest brewery in PA I believe. I liked it before, love it now. I will get a case this weekend.

Yep, Trump had the City of Philadelphia Bureaucracy vote all wrapped up until that Yuengling guy started yapping, huh.

I’m with you ... don’t drink but want to see their business thrive. Gonna buy a case of the stuff. I can keep it on hand for visitors.

I’ve been drinking Yuengling for maybe 25 years and it’s my favorite. I’m so happy they’re supporting Trump. I would have hated to switch beers.

Do they sell it in Texas, I’ve never seen it. I’ll check with HEB.

Drink both...I usually have a Rolling Rock as my first beer of the evening and then a Yuengling. My third beer is usually either Shiner Bock or Fat Tire.

Actually I really don’t know for sure. But even though I’ve argued heatedly with more than my fair share of FReepers here since 1998, I STIll put a LOT of stock in what we as a collective (and individually) think. So a lot of times I defer to said experience or knowledge and comment.

Not the best way, but I’d trust what the average (not-troll) FReeper says more than my next door neighbor.

It is primarily sold in the Northeast but you may find it at grocery sized liquor store or some specialty booze joint.

And this sort of hate will just get worse if HRC is there to “unite” us. Those of us who don’t “unite” will be shunned or worse.
