Did Justin Timberlake Commit Voter Fraud in Tennessee?
National Review ^ | October 26, 2016 10:01 AM | by HANS A. VON SPAKOVSKY

CNN reported that Justin Timberlake took a selfie while voting early in Memphis, Tenn., which raises the question of whether he violated a new state law that prohibits taking photos or videos in a polling place. But the network missed the more important question of whether Timberlake committed voter fraud by voting in Tennessee.

according to the CNN article, even though Timberlake is originally from Memphis, today “he lives in California.” Timberlake owns a five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home in the Hollywood Hills that he bought for more than $8 million in 2002, which is “his primary residence,”....

Timberlake’s possible improper registration in Tennessee is symptomatic of a larger problem — a voter-registration system that is filled with inaccurate, duplicate, and ineligible registrations. Four years ago, the Pew Center on the States released a study indicating that approximately 24 million voter registrations in the United States – one of every eight – are no longer valid or are significantly inaccurate.

Let you or I try that and lets see how quickly we get a letter for the CA Franchise Tax Board.

They are even coming after retirees that take their CA pension out of state.

He has a home in TN as he has businesses there, but rarely is there. What he did is illegal but does not hit the fraud level you could not see who he voted for nor did he say. He could have done it just past the Campaign line and not caused an incident. When he did it it made the nightly news. My news comes out of Memphis.

It would be prudent to check the laws on how many months you have to reside in your state you are registered in and if he is registered in CA too.

The Snow Birds do it in Fl.

Timberlake has clearly maintained his Tennessee residency so he can benefit from zero income tax.

The way he is paid probably makes that possible.

Which is simply smart business rather than attempted voter fraud, unless he registered in CA as well.

Wonder how many rules and laws Gov. Moonbeam are bending up by Colusa?

Correct, if he’s double registered then it isn’t just vote fraud but tax fraud, too, depending on where he paid his taxes.

He’s probably a Democrat voting in both states so it’s ok.

Since he and his wife had a fundraiser for HRC at their home in CA.. not much doubt who he voted for.

Gee, is Justin Timberlake a 1% tax-avoider, just like Trump?

Enquiring minds want to know!

I loved that several were calling him out in comments on various articles for the HUGE carbon-footprint he made by flying in just to vote when he could’ve just sent in an absentee ballot by mail.

California taxes your total personal income like a “resident” if you spend any part of 183 days in a calendar year within the borders of the state.

Taylor Swift also owns a home in Nashville and frequently visits there. However, she did in fact begin her career as a Country Music performer in Nashville, and also attended public school there.

Selena Gomez is originally from Texas, but her parents moved to Tennessee after they became Selena’s managers. I think Selena fired them recently, so I don’t know how that affects her state income tax status.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel hosted a $33,400-a-ticket fundraiser at their Los Angeles home for the Democratic presidential candidate hosted by Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Aniston and television producer Shonda Rhimes.

He needs to be spotlighted, accused and ridiculed, primarily for being so very un-green and avoiding taxes. If voter fraud’s found, he needs to be criminally charged also.

Amazed to be correcting Hans A. Von Spakovsky, who is a rock star of election law, but one can have many residences, but only one domicile. If Timberlake had a home in TN, and homes in CA and NY and anywhere else, he should vote in his domicile, the place where he lives and intends to return (when he is not working in CA and NY and anywhere else.) How you prove that is by looking at all the possible relationships a person has to location - where your cars registered, where do you spend the majority of the year, where do you pay taxes, etc. Some of those factors may be ambiguous in a particular person's affairs, but a court will resolve it. We have this problem in FL all the time due to favorable property tax treatment for homestead properties, and the lack of state income tax. People from other states want to be legal residents of FL, but may not have sufficient proof of connection to FL or duration of residence here (6 months and one day/year), etc.

...They are even coming after retirees that take their CA pension out of state.

As a former Californian who now lives in Oregon, I know that the courts stopped this over a decade ago. Even though I earned my pension and SS in CA, they can not tax them there.

Not that it matters a lot, even though the top rate is slightly lower in OR, the tax brackets are more steeply progressive and I end up paying more than I would in CA. Of course, the lack of a sales tax, and much lower property taxes make OR a better deal overall.

"Smart business" when Timberlake does it; denying California schoolchildren the tax money if Trump does it.

The reason it’s illegal is to prevent union thugs (and other liberals) from threatening people into voting D and requiring them to prove that they did so. It’s why we have a secret ballot.

A good law, IMO. It prevents fascists from coercing people to vote for them.

We need to have some other type of system so that we can prove that we keep the vote honest and at the same time prevent voter fraud. The libs would use non-secret ballots to coerce votes and they use the secret ballot to commit secret voter fraud.
