(CNN) On November 1, the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplaces will open for their fourth open enrollment period. On Monday, Healthcare.gov, the federal marketplace serving 39 states, pulled back the curtains to allow consumers to window shop for 2017 plans.
As it did so, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a report analyzing the premiums consumers will have to pay for 2017 marketplace coverage and the coverage choices they will have available.
The HHS report documents what has already been widely reported -- that after two years of moderate premium increases (2% for 2015 and 7.5% for 2016) premiums are going up sharply for 2017. Across the 39 states using the HealthCare.gov platform, the median second-lowest cost silver plan, which sets the benchmark for premium tax credits, will increase 16%, while the average increase looking only at states on the federal exchange is 25%.
Opinion columnists and politicians will undoubtedly seize on the report as further evidence that the Affordable Care Act is a failure. But a deeper dig reveals a different story.

Bill Clinton has blasted President Obamas signature piece of legislation ObamaCare as the craziest thing in the world.
Youve got this crazy system where all of a sudden, 25 million more people have health care, and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half and its the craziest thing in the world, the former president railed at a rally in Michigan on Monday.
Clinton also said the system is hurting moderately successful small businesses ones that arent doing poorly enough to be subsidized and fall just above the line.
On the other hand, the current system works fine if youre eligible for Medicaid, if youre a lower-income working person, if youre already on Medicare or if you get enough subsidies on a modest income that you can afford your health care, Clinton said.
But the people getting killed in this deal are the small-business people and individuals who make just a little bit too much to get any of these subsidies, he added. ...

CNN shilling for Obamacare.
What a pile of smelly lies! Moderate increase? Policies were “underpriced” before?? Prices were promised to go down and they have been soaring.
Obamacare is so popular Democrats lost their majorities because of it.
MSM keeps doubling down on defending their policy train wreck.
You can keep your plan and doctor. Prices will go down. We have to pass it to see what’s in it.
The media and polls are totally unbiased.
Well, these liberal pukes always lie. Just like the biggest liar’ of them all who promised you can keep your healthcare or whatever BS he spouted off his ass..
Another deliberate carefully crafted lie is to equate health care with health insurance .
Yes it’s probably always better to health insurance , but people get health care without health insurance
Yeah. Like we’re going to believe anything these liars say.
Author of the CNN piece is Timothy Jost.
Story notes he is currently the Rockingham County, Virginia Democratic Party committee chairperson.
CNN says his opinions are his own, not necessarily CNN’s.
Fancy that.
They never mention the huge deductibles or the lack of choice in insurance companies and health care providers.
I hope they are the first to suffer under a socialist system that rations care, hires incompetent doctors and nurses that have all the tenderness of DMV workers, and find they are denied treatment after age 60.
Or some other mumbo-jumbo to convince us that night is day and we can't trust our lying eyes.
Oh... and by the way... those “increases”???....
They don’t account for the additional drain on the system that will be caused by the flood of people who will stop playing this game.
So if you sign up with what you think is a “good” plan, don’t hold your breath too long for service....
and don’t be surprised if your “plan” gets cancelled before it goes into effect.
What a bunch of horse manure. I am not on obamacare but do follow their prices as I approach 60 and may face a layoff from a fortune 500 company. Here in southern California an Obamacare PPO plan with a 20% copay and a $750/month “subsidy” still costs me more than my employer pays for a far superior PPO plan with a much larger network and a 10% copay. This year obamacare is up 25% from last year. I wish I could stay on Cobra till 65 but the law says only 18 months max.
ROTFL. If you’re looking for the TRUTH, CNN is the last place you want to go.
This is exactly why the MSM is at their lowest trust level ever.. People are no longer being fooled by their misrepresentations and lies because the internet is now available to prove the truth.. A modest increase of 7.5 percent.. lol..
There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to add the adjective “modest” unless you are trying to downplay the increase.. just say it was a 7.5 % increase..
They say this as if it's good, but even three to chose from is too few, and 44% of people have less than that.
So even though some premiums are going up by a whopping 50%, it's not really all that bad because some plans are going up less than that. Thanks CNN. I never realized that "averages" worked that way.
