According to the latest reports coming out of Colorado, marijuana is a major cause of homicides in the state, and the problem is only getting worse.
"There is increased crime, sometimes violent crime, associated with legalization of marijuana," Brauchler said. "That's not what you'd expect. You'd expect the harder-core drugs." ... "If cash is the only way to acquire marijuana, crime follows cash," Brauchler said ... Brauchler believes the legalization of marijuana is partly to blame for the rise in crime. "It is easier for there to be black market in a legalized system than there was before," he said.
This all wasn't supposed to happen. The pot legalization advocates told us that legalized marijuana would reduce crime and effectively eliminate the black market. Now we have experienced and respected prosecutors saying they are seeing, firsthand, the exact opposite.

And that is the problem with the legalization of these gateway drugs... The bad guys move onto selling the “better” harder stuff at a higher margin to a greater number of the populace who are looking for the next ultimate high.

I’m not sure this is accurate. I’d like to believe these prosecutors but I don’t think much crime is committed to get $ for pot, any more than it might be committed to get electronics. We can’t ban Xboxes because people want to steal them. Marijuana doesn’t make you sick from not getting it. You don’t HAVE to keep smoking it. Not the same with caffeine, cocaine, opiates.
Also, talking about criminals testing + for pot is maningless if the tests show positive if you’ve smoked in the last three weeks (they do). They even show + if you take CBD oil for pain or nausea and never once get high.
I’m not buying this.

It’s a cash basis because the feds won’t allow access to banking system to cannabis growers / merchants.
BTW, ‘marijuana’ IS racist because it was used by the Hearst papers to tie cannabis with lazy Mexicans in its ‘Reefer Madness’ campaign. Necessary to protect investment in forests by Hearst because hemp makes better paper for less cost, and a hemp harvesting machine had just been patented.

It’s happening in my state, and right over the border in Siskyou County CA in anticipation of legalization. Someone in Siskyou explained that the Bulgarian and Hmong mafias as well as MX cartels are purchasing huge acreage to start huge commercial mj grows. I know from someone who worked on wildefires the summer before last in N.CA that there are already massive illegal grows denuding forests illegally, sucking all the water from streams and polluting with crazy use of chemicals. Hmongs in many cars all armed were actually preventing firefighters from exiting a dangerous fire area.
In my county, there is basically no LE, very rural, and most of the grow ops are illegal, they don’t bother with permits. Sucking the acquifer and streams illegally, and crime is way up. I hear dispatch 24/y and it is a fact.
Note my comment. OR has had medical mj for years, a number of docs give cards to anyone, and the state pays people to grow medical mj and of course they always grow more than they are supposed to, to sell on the black market. Our entire valley has changed in less than a year. At least 1000 grows around here, almost all non-permitted. Car crashes and thefts way up, murders up, and...meth use and heroin continue to be rampant. In CO they also found “harder” drug use way up despite legalizing mj.
