TRUMP PLEDGES TO DRAIN THE SWAMP AND IMPOSE CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS
The Donald ^ | Oct 18, 2016 | The Donald

There is another major announcement I am going to make today as part of our pledge to drain the swamp in Washington. If I am elected President, I will push for a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress.

Decades of failure in Washington, and decades of special interest dealing, must come to an end. We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service. The time for Congressional term limits has arrived.

The time for Congressional term limits has arrived.

It actually arrived 30 years ago or more. Imagine all the misery that could have been avoided if we'd had term limits back then.

This will be fought tooth and nail by the Uniparty. Last thing they want is to lose power.

...get the money OUT of Congress.

I believe people have been saying that since Lincoln. Never going to happen. Our poor Congresscritters can barely make it on $174K a year.

I used to think make everybody run every four years.

Now I believe, make them all run every two years. The honest agitatus that Trump delivers would be successful going forward if we were on an endless election cycle.

IMHO, there should be term limits on the Supreme Court!

This is it. This is the declaration of open warfare. If he wins, they’re going to try to assassinate him. They will not let this happen.

Calling for congressional term limits — a wakeup issue.

Outsider issue!

Trump said he would push for a Constitutional Amendment for this. Which is even harder, but the right way to go about it.

Just legislating term limits allows a future congress to repeal term limits.

It’s not SUPPOSED to be a “career”.

I keep wondering what Hillary’s databank is like now?

Career politicians are more worried about blackmail than outsiders.

I agree that the legislative staffs need to be addressed as well.

What was the spoils system? Not familiar with that term.

I understand your thinking — six terms for House might seem reasonable.

... but three points ...

A.

Just because you are not re-elected doesn’t mean you are not involved.

Look at Newt.

I would prefer that new House members look to old-timers like Newt for advise.

~~~
B. Why must the House be as long-term as the Senate? The senate can have the old fuddyduds. That’s kind of been their role all along. Better the House be infused with New Blood.
~~~

C. The election cycle for House members is intense. Reelection every two years. That’s demoralizing over time ... can cause a previously optimistic person to get a little sour, negative. Like lack of sleep.

Six years is plenty for the House.

‘What was the spoils system? Not familiar with that term.’

If I’m not mistaken, the spoils system is the informal strategy of rewarding campaign supporters.

“I would consider restoring the spoils system, bad as it was.”

Trump should certainly be allowed to ‘fire-replace’ with impunity. Democrats essentially do that anyway, right?

It was illegal for Bill Clinton to fire William Sessions. The FBI director was set up to be immune from politicization according to Senator Grassley. Ten year terms with congressional involvement if there was any talk of dismissal.

But Clinton did it anyway.
