I would love to see term limits imposed on both Congress and federal judges (district, appellate, and SCOTUS), but how is Trump going to accomplish this?

Judges, too! Especially the Supremes.

They were given lifetime tenure precisely so they would not be influenced by political considerations. The idea was that their loyalty would only be to the law, because they did not have to worry about their jobs.

That’s all been turned around. There’s always been some politics, but since Bork, Supreme Court appointments have been all political. That should change. If politics is unavoidable, make their terms long, but not for life, and especially, asynchronous with the Presidential election cycle. Maybe 13 years would be a lucky number.

Rather than term limits I’d rather see the 17th Amendment repealed.

The House was meant to be the people’s representative, the Senate was meant to be the states.’

If it was good enough for George Washington to retire after two terms even though he was begged to stay on as President, it s/b good enough for the current crop of politicians.

Term limits are 50 years too late.

Politicians and gubmint officials need to be removed after 2 terms. And they ought to be paid the mean salary of their constituents. And they should be prohibited from lobbying the gubmint for life.

Basically, this enforces the public gubmint officials represent their constituents without any financial gain now or ever.

Firing massive numbers in the federal bureaucracy so big it counts as a fourth, UN-elected branch of government is even more important.

I agree with Trump 100% that these things are all necessary.

But the reality is that Congress will never pass such legislation, let along keep it in force going forward.

Imagine if there had been a system where the Mafia had to vote itself out of existence in order to be taken down, and you’ll see the problem with what Trump is proposing.

Moreovere, it will actually require a Constitutional amendment to make it unassailable law. The president has no role in amending the Constitution other then the bully pulpit, and getting such an amendment passed without the support of Congress will be a very difficult if not impossible task.

Trump, you had me at “hello”. When did the cycle people in Congress after no more than two terms so they stay close to American citizens.

Noting that I will gladly Vote Trump, Trump supporters need to get him up to speed on the following problem with term limits imo.

Since corrupt Congress has, for many generations, been letting the faceless, non-elected bureucrats running constitutionally undefined “federal regulatory agencies” get away with stealing not only legislative branch powers, but also state powers, to effectively run the country, term limits for lawmakers are probably not going to be as effective as Trump and patriots are thinking.

In other words, patriots will need to work with Trump to get rid of federal regulatory agencies and force Congress to accept responsibility for its legislative powers, running the US Mail Service (1.8.7) being one of the few domestic constitutional responsibilities that Congress actually has.

In fact, if Trump can manage to persuade Congress to work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8 limited powers, then the states are probably going to have problems finding citizens who are willing to serve the country as federal lawmakers.

On the other hand, since the biggest responsibility of Section 8 is military and defense, being elected to Congress would be a good way to honor retired military personnel who would still like to serve the country.

There is a point I like to call the Daschle Gephardt moment where you go to bed without knowing who you can trust anymore.

All the establishment types are praying to a golden calf tonight.

Beside term limits, I’m wondering why these congress critters can’t live and stay in their districts, and conduct their business over telephones and the internet. The swamp will never be drained as long as they are allowed to go to DC and party and conspire. It’s the 21st century for crying out loud.
