Trump campaign fact check: Armrests in first class seats did move

Donald Trump's campaign has cited the immovability of arm rests between first class seats on the old Braniff Airways planes to refute an allegations of a 1979 sexual assault on a woman by the candidate.

But the armrests did move.

Jessica Leeds was among the first women in recent days to accuse Trump of touching them inappropriately. Trump has denied the allegations.

Leeds, now 74, has alleged that about 45 minutes after takeoff on a Braniff International Airways flight from Dallas to a New York area airport, Trump moved the armrest between their first class seats and groped her. She claims the incident occurred in 1979.

Campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson refuted Leeds's allegation Wednesday on "CNN Tonight with Don Lemon."

"First class seats have fixed armrests. So what I can tell you if she was groped on a plane, it wasn't by Donald Trump and it certainly wasn't in first class," Pierson said.

You can take the armrest out and put it into storage by
“removing” it by pulling up on it. It DOES NOT life up against the back of the seat like they do in regular US classes (but not always in Europe).

By using weasel words they try to insinuate that Donald somehow lifted up this bulky arm in an act of groping. And then they cut off comments on the article, because they know they are going to get questioned on this. Donald would have needed to stand up, bend over the arm, pull it off, put it somewhere, and then sit back down, before any of this shenanigans could have begun. Any RESPONSIBLE news organization would be inquiring into this rather than being nakedly biased like this.

The armrests are "removable" in First Class if you put a knee on the seat, know where the release pin is, and have a lot of strength to pull it straight up from the center post. The entire assembly comes out. Then you have to stow it somewhere. What did he do, take the 15 pound armrest and chuck it into the aisle?

I'm a former flight attendant. (Mid 90s to mid-00s.) Have worked all the Boeing equipment plus DCs and Airbus. My father was a pilot. Flew DC-9s, 707s & L1011s in 70s and 80s, 737, 757, 767s in 80s-90s. My mother was a flight attendant early 60s. Flew all Boeing and Lockheed aircraft, first jet-trained class at TWA.

First class center armrests CANNOT BE RAISED. As I mentioned on another thread, the only time I have ever seen a a FC armrest removed was when Jay Leno requested it on a DC-10 and he had purchased both seats. We brought a mechanic onboard while at the gate who removed the armrest with considerable effort and we stored it in the First Class closet.
