Trump campaign fact check: Armrests in first class seats did move
CNN Money ^ | 2016-10-14 | Jon Ostrower

Donald Trump's campaign has cited the immovability of arm rests between first class seats on the old Braniff Airways planes to refute an allegations of a 1979 sexual assault on a woman by the candidate.

But the armrests did move.

Jessica Leeds was among the first women in recent days to accuse Trump of touching them inappropriately. Trump has denied the allegations.

Leeds, now 74, has alleged that about 45 minutes after takeoff on a Braniff International Airways flight from Dallas to a New York area airport, Trump moved the armrest between their first class seats and groped her. She claims the incident occurred in 1979.

Campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson refuted Leeds's allegation Wednesday on "CNN Tonight with Don Lemon."

"First class seats have fixed armrests. So what I can tell you if she was groped on a plane, it wasn't by Donald Trump and it certainly wasn't in first class," Pierson said.

The leather first class seats were designed with the removable center armrest for cleaning or "for a passenger that wanted to stretch across the seat,"

Excerpt from Braniff Airlines' flight attendant manual.

More important than armrests are voting machines.

Mandatory electronic monitoring of the voting machines!

Removable. It looks too big to be moveable.

Incredible.

So instead of hearing about the economy and terrorism and immigration policy and such, we need to educate ourselves as to how the armrests on first class seats on a Braniff airliner worked...........

“Removeable” is not the same as “fold-up,” or am I missing something?

Come on, she didn’t claim and he didn’t pull the first class armrest up and out of the seat!

No mention of the other passenger who said nothing happened.

You REALLY thought this was worth posting as a thread?

It's probably better that you learn about it on FR, where you can see the critique.

If you read closely, you'll notice that the article actually contradicts what Trump's accuser claimed, but I'll let you do the research to figure it out.

The item says removable by a flight intendant or “a knowledgable passenger.” Trump was not such a passenger. If you look at the thing, it doesn’t look removable. The were removable, typically, for cleaning. This isn’t the same a lifting up an armrest. When removed, the armrest would have to be placed somewhere. It doesn’t fit between between the seats.

Trump is proved innocent.

"removable" it says. Meaning the whole cinder-block sized armrest would be separated from the seat.

So this Leeds chick was so freakin' hot, that Trump pried up this armrest just to get to her ... And what did he do with the armrest once it was out? Stow it in the overhead bin? Hold onto it with one arm while he groped her? Hard to be an octopus with one free arm.

So ‘reporter’ Jon Ostrower doesn’t know the difference between ‘movable’ and ‘removable’? Or is he just counting on his readers being idiots (probably with justification)?

I’m sure the seats are removeable too. In which case the Donald could really get busy.

Most of you ladies and gentlemen should be commended for your sharp eye for detail, and quickly recognizing why I posted the article.

One of you -- and you know who you are -- should be ashamed of yourself.

CNN is populated by idiots, liars and hacks. This doesn’t prove squat. “Removable” armrest isn’t the same as an armrest that can be raised. “Removable” means just that - it can be taken out completely, and specifically so the areas beneath can be cleaned. If you remove it, it must be stowed somewhere. The allegation was that Trump raised the armrest, that that he “removed” the armrest.

More likely is the story that this is the same Leeds that was pissed at the Donald for planting a row of ficus trees on one of his golf courses to keep some houses out of view of golfers, but simultaneously obscuring the view of the ocean FROM those houses. Leeds was one of the homeowners.
